Implementations disclosed describe numerous techniques and systems facilitating synchronous actions in wireless networks that have a central device (CD) and multiple peripheral devices (PDs) communicating wirelessly with the CD. The CD communicates one or more messages to the PDs and various PDs determine, using communicated messages, a time of a synchronous action to be performed by the PDs. The synchronous action includes an interaction of a respective PD with one or more associated devices communicatively coupled with the PD. Upon completion of the synchronous action, the PDs may transmit data generated by the PDs, or by the one or more associated devices, in connection with the synchronous action.

Time synchronization in wireless networks

Implementations disclosed describe techniques and systems to facilitate efficient operations of wireless networks organized in a topology of communicating nodes. Techniques include cascade synchronization of various nodes of the network by generating and maintaining a common time using times associated with ordered communications between nodes. The common time maintained by the network allows performance of synchronous action for precise industrial, medical, and testing applications. The described techniques and systems further include management of communication windows between different nodes in a way that facilitates fast and efficient propagation of data collected by the network from multiple source nodes to one or more destination nodes. The techniques further include efficient assignment and flexible management of communication frequencies (channels) to various nodes of the network to reduce interference and noise by assigning different communication frequencies to the nodes that utilize concurrent communications windows.

Device synchronization and connection management in wireless networks

Disclosed are methods and systems for reducing wireless data traffic in a battery management system. A wireless battery management system includes peripheral devices (PDs), each coupled to a battery module having associated battery cells and is operable to receive battery measurements from such associated cells. The system also includes a central device (CD) operable to receive battery measurements from the PDs via a wireless network. The system also includes a first data processing unit (DPU) coupled with a first one of the PDs and communicatively interposed between the first PD and the wireless network. The first DPU is operable to (i) receive a first data packet from the first PD, (ii) if the first data packet passes verification, compress the first data packet and add a protection code to the first data packet, and (iii) send the compressed first data packet with the protection code to a second DPU via the wireless network. The second DPU is coupled with the CD and communicatively interposed between the CD and the wireless network. The second DPU is operable to (i) from the wireless network, receive the compressed first data packet with the protection code, (ii) if the compressed first data packet passes verification, decompress the compressed first data packet to obtain the first data packet, and (iii) send the decompressed first data packet to the CD.

Minimizing over the air data transmission for wireless battery monitoring systems

Disclosed are techniques for a device that wants to be a central device when creating a connection in a communication network such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to advertise information associated with a connection window to solicit a connection with a scanning peer device. When the scanning peer device receives the information, it may enter a connection as a peripheral device with the advertising device at the advertised connection window, allowing the advertising device to become the central device. Disclosed are also techniques for a device that wants to be a central device to advertise information associated with a scan window of the device to solicit a directed advertisement event from a peer device during the advertised scan window. The peer device initially scans but may advertise during the scan window as advertised to enable the central device to create a connection where the peer device becomes a peripheral device.

Management of communication channels in wireless networks

Implementations disclosed describe techniques and systems that improve connectivity and reduce network traffic and interference in wireless mesh networks by maintaining various mesh network devices (proxy nodes, beacon devices, printers, and the like) in an operating mode in which the mesh network devices do not advertise their presence to client devices. An outside client device seeking connection to mesh network devices, transmits a solicitation to the mesh network. Having received a solicitation, a mesh network device responds with one or more announcements (proxy node announcement, location beacon announcement, printer announcement, and so on). In response to receiving solicitations from one or more mesh network devices, the client device performs an action, such as selecting and establishes a proxy connection or a printer connection, determining a current location of the client device, or initiating some other action.

Dynamic proxy operations in wireless mesh networks

In an example embodiment, a device comprises one or more processors and a baseband controller. The one or more processors are configured to: determine, from a payload of at least one received packet, a channel identification (ID) of a notice window in a sequence of transmission windows; transmit, in the notice window, a notice packet that identifies a target window, the target window being later in the sequence of transmission windows than the notice window; generate a target packet that includes inverse whitened data; and transmit the target packet in the target window. The baseband controller is configured to execute signal whitening on the target packet, where the signal whitening of the inverse whitened data in the target packet results in a substantially sinusoidal signal when the target packet is transmitted by the device.

Methods, systems and devices for communicating between devices within a channel hopping system

A method can include, by operation of a first device, generating sequence information for a plurality of sequential transmission windows, the sequence information including at least a channel identification (ID) corresponding to a base frequency for each window; generating payload data for a packet and wirelessly transmitting the packet in one of the windows, the payload data including sequence information for a window later in the sequence than the window in which the packet is transmitted. By operation of an application executed on a second device, a target packet can be composed that includes inverse whitened data; wherein the whitening of the inverse whitened data by the second device results in a substantially sinusoidal signal when the target packet is transmitted. The first device can determine a direction of the second device by processing the substantially sinusoidal signal. Devices for executing such a method are also disclosed.

A system for facilitating communications in a mesh network is provided. One or more devices of the mesh network may participate as routing nodes to provide range extension for any other devices in the mesh network that would otherwise be out of range from one another. In one or more implementations, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) may be used as the physical transport of the mesh network.

Methods and systems for processing data are disclosed herein and may include compressing audio information on-chip within a Bluetooth&#xae; transceiver chip utilizing an audio codec implemented within the Bluetooth&#xae; transceiver chip. The audio codec may be a low complexity sub-band codec (SBC). An audio stream with the audio information may be generated outside the Bluetooth&#xae; transceiver chip. The audio stream may be generated via an audio/video distribution transport protocol (AVDTP) external to the Bluetooth&#xae; transceiver chip. A data channel may be established by the Bluetooth&#xae; transceiver chip between a Bluetooth&#xae; enabled device and a peer Bluetooth&#xae; device, for communicating the established audio stream to the Bluetooth&#xae; transceiver chip for compression. The data channel may be established utilizing a logical link control and adaptation protocol (L2CAP) and/or an advanced audio distribution profile (A2DP).

Method and system for optimized architecture for bluetooth streaming audio applications

A method and system are provided in which a Windows Portable Devices (WPD) driver installed and executed on a central device enables one or more applications on that device to interface with a peripheral device, such as a Bluetooth low energy (BLE) device. The peripheral device may utilize a Generic Attribute Profile (GATT) to interface with the WPD driver. Through the WPD driver, the central device may access, transmit, receive, and/or modify information associated with the peripheral device and/or control the peripheral device. The information associated with the peripheral device may include services, characteristics, and/or descriptors. A WPD device and objects that logically or virtually represents the peripheral device may be generated to map attributes of the WPD device to services and/or characteristics associated with the peripheral device. More than one WPD device may be available when multiple peripheral devices are represented in the central device.
