An improved modular building panel and system for building construction is disclosed. The improved modular building panel comprises a novel honeycomb or lattice core comprising multiple layers of corrugated, preferably metal, components mechanically connected by any means known in the art, but which may be chemical bonding. External cladding layers comprising a novel cement mix comprising, in a preferred embodiment, Portland cement, silica sand, perlite, glass beads, and water, in combination with the honeycomb structure, provide a lightweight, highly durable, low-cost, projectile resistant, highly insulating, water, mold and mildew resistant, wind resistant novel modular wall system which is adapted for use in commercial, residential, and other construction and which provides superior security to the user. The modular building panel and system of the invention may be utilized for walls, roofs, floors, bridges, or other structures.

Modular building panel

The present invention provides a method and apparatae used to prepare a shaped and molded multilayered article formed from a heated thermoplastic sheet and a first plastic sheet that are driven into melt-bonding contact by a stream of gas. The method involves applying a stream of gas () against the first surface () of a first plastic sheet () so as to drive a second surface () of the first plastic sheet against and into contact with the first surface () of a heated thermoplastic sheet () as the heated thermoplastic sheet is formed (e.g., extends downstream from the sheet slotof a sheet die). The second surface of the first plastic sheet is defined by a thermoplastic layer. The heated thermoplastic sheet has a temperature that is sufficient to melt-bond the thermoplastic layer defining the second surface of the first plastic sheet and the first surface of the heated thermoplastic sheet together, thereby resulting in the continuous formation of a heated multilayered thermoplastic sheet () having a thermoformable temperature. The second surface () of the heated thermoformable multilayered thermoplastic sheet is brought into contour matching contact with the interior surface () of a first mold portion (), and cooled thereby resulting in formation of the shaped multilayered article. A sheet molding apparatus (), a sheet guide apparatus (), and fluid management structures () (e.g., storm/waste water management chambers) prepared thereby, are also provided with regard to the present invention.

Method and apparatus for forming a shaped multilayered molded article

A sheet molding apparatus including at least one molding surface with a plurality of perforations, at least one sheet retainer with a plurality of vacuum perforations, and an accompanying vacuum mechanism for controllably drawing reduced pressure through the perforations. The sheet molding apparatus can be used for rapidly and accurately positioning thermoformable thermoplastic sheets to match the molding surfaces in producing molded articles.

Apparatus of preparing a molded article

A sheet molding apparatus includes at least one molding surface having a plurality of perforations and an accompanying vacuum mechanism for controllably drawing reduced pressure through the perforations. The sheet molding apparatus includes further at least one sheet retainer with a clamping capability attached to a frame surrounding at least a portion of the perimeter edge of the molding surface. The sheet molding apparatus with the sheet retainer and its clamping capability can be used for rapidly and accurately positioning thermoformable thermoplastic sheets to match the molding surfaces in producing molded articles.

The method includes providing a mold apparatus () that includes, a first mold portion () having an interior mold surface () having a plurality of perforations () and a perimeter edge (). The mold apparatus () further includes at least one tubular sheet retainer () having an exterior surface () having a plurality of perforations () and a longitudinal axis () that is oriented along at least a portion of the perimeter edge () of the first mold portion (). Each tubular sheet retainer () is reversibly and controllably: (i) positionable along an x-, y- and/or z-axis relative to the perimeter edge (); and (ii) rotatable around its longitudinal axis (), toward and/or away from the perimeter edge (). A heated thermoplastic sheet () is formed and contacted (while at a thermoformable temperature) with the interior surface () of the first mold portion () and the exterior surfaces () of the tubular sheet retainers (). Reduced pressure is drawn through the perforations () of the tubular sheet retainers () thereby retaining a portion of the heated thermoplastic sheet () thereon. The tubular sheet retainers () are rotated and/or moved along the x-, y- and/or z-axes with the sheet retained thereon, relative to the perimeter edge (). Reduced pressure is drawn through the perforations () of the interior mold surface (), thereby drawing the heated thermoplastic sheet () into intimate contour matching contact there-with.

Method of preparing a molded article

A method of forming a shaped thermoplastic sheet is described. The method includes providing a mold apparatus () that includes, a first mold portion () having an interior mold surface () having a plurality of perforations () and a perimeter edge (). The mold apparatus () further includes at least one sheet retainer () having an upper surface () having a plurality of perforations () and a longitudinal axis () that is oriented along at least a portion of the perimeter edge () of the first mold portion (). Each sheet retainer () is reversibly and controllably: (i) positionable along an x-, y- and/or z-axis relative to the perimeter edge (); and (ii) rotatable around its longitudinal axis (), toward and/or away from the perimeter edge (). A heated thermoplastic sheet () is formed and contacted (while at a thermoformable temperature) with the interior surface () of the first mold portion () and the exterior surfaces () of the tubular sheet retainers (). Reduced pressure is drawn through the perforations () of the sheet retainers () thereby retaining a portion of the heated thermoplastic sheet () thereon. The sheet retainers () are moved along the x-, y- and/or z-axes, and optionally rotated, with the sheet retained thereon, relative to the perimeter edge (). The heated thermoplastic sheet () is allowed to cool, and a shaped thermoplastic sheet retaining the contour of interior mold surface () is formed.

The method includes providing a mold apparatus () that includes a first mold portion () having a contoured and perforated interior mold surface (), and a perimeter edge (). The mold apparatus also includes a frame () that surrounds at least a portion of the perimeter edge () of the first mold portion (). At least one sheet retainer () resides on the upper surface () of the frame (). Each sheet retainer () includes a clamp portion () that faces towards (or in the direction of) the perimeter edge () of the first mold portion (), and which includes a reversibly closeable clamp member () which defines in part a clamp interior (). Each sheet retainer () is independently, reversibly and laterally attached to the upper surface () of the frame (), such that each clamp portion () is reversibly and laterally positionable relative to the perimeter edge () of the first mold portion (). In the method of the present invention, each sheet retainer, with a first portion () of a heated thermoplastic sheet () retained within the clamp portion thereof, is independently, reversibly and laterally moved towards and/or away from the perimeter edge of the first mold portion. Independent reversible and lateral positioning of each sheet retainer provides control (e.g., localized control) over the thickness of the heated thermoplastic sheet that is contacted with the interior mold surface of the first mold portion during the molding process.

A support structure () that includes a support panel (), at least one pile () having associated therewith at least one bracket () and at least one mounting strap (). Each bracket () includes a lower portion (), at least one extension () extending upward from the lower portion (), and a retainer () extending outward from a first surface () of the lower portion (). The retainer () of the bracket () is received within an aperture () of an apertured sidewall () of the pile (). At least one mounting strap () maintains: the first surface () of the lower portion () of the bracket () in abutting relationship with the apertured sidewall () of the pile; and the retainer () within the aperture () thereof. A first surface () of the extension () of the bracket () and the apertured sidewall () of the pile () together define a vertical slot () having an open top () and a closed bottom (). The support panel () includes at least one downwardly extending sidewall () that is received within the vertical slot (). Receipt of the sidewall () within the vertical slot () serves to support the support panel (). The support structure may be used as a dock, such as a marine dock.

Support structure

The present invention relates to a molded pile (e.g.,) that includes a unitary elongated body () and an elongated tube () residing longitudinally within the elongated body (). The elongated body () includes first () and second () exterior elongated plates that are spaced apart and opposed to each other. The elongated body () also includes a plurality of internal ribs () interposed between and being continuous with the first () and second () exterior elongated plates. The internal ribs () together define a plurality of apertures () and an elongated passage () that extends the length of the elongated body (). The elongated tube () resides within the elongated passage (), and provides fluid communication between upper () and lower () ends of the elongated body. Passage of a high pressure fluid (e.g., water and/or air) through elongated tuberesults in fluidization of a penetrable material (e.g., soil) into which the lower portion () of the elongated body () is driven. The apertures () are dimensioned to receive fluidized penetrable material therein, thereby anchoring the lower portion () of the elongated body () within the penetrable material (). The present invention also relates to a method of installing or anchoring the molded pile in a penetrable material ().

Molded pile

A cartridge interface retains and couples a first information device, such as PCMCIA type card, with an internal connector of a host computer used in a rugged environment. It may also retain a second information device, such as a memory drive, separate from the first information device. The host computer has a cartridge insertion slot that guides the cartridge and a connector of the PCMCIA card into engagement with the computer's internal connector. The PCMCIA card is retained on the cartridge in a manner that prevents translation of the card relative to the cartridge during removal from the host computer.
