A special paste feature presents a variety of options to a user for choosing the appearance of the pasted object or objects. When the user selects to specially paste the object, an interface is presented for the user to select from a variety of styles and format codes or predefined groups thereof to keep in the pasted object. Once the user selects the level of structure and formatting that he or she desires to import into the target document, the object will be copied into the target document or application using only the structure and formatting selected to remain by the user.

A Web development environment includes a design view mode that provides an expanded view of container constructs within Web page being edited. When operating in a design view of the development environment, the user is provided an option to view all container constructs in an expanded view. The expanded view will temporarily increase the visual attributes of the container constructs allowing the user to more easily access the editing regions within the cells or content locations of the container. Increasing the visual attributes also allows the developer to see the structure of the edited Web page more clearly. When the developer is finished working with the container, he or she may then return to a standard or other view offered by the graphical development environment. The resulting containers will be re-rendered according to the originally-coded size, without the additional space added for viewing in the expanded mode.

Block layout features in an interface under design are visually enhanced for a designer. When viewing the interface in a graphical design view of a development environment (DE), the DE adds a fill color for certain layout blocks making up the interface. The color selected for the block is selected to contrast against the colors of any adjacent blocks. The DE may also add visual representations showing the box model parameters of the layout blocks making up the interface. The developer is, therefore, able to see the visual block layout of the interface and also the basic layout of any of the individual blocks.

Systems and methods are provided for style sheet language coding that maintains a desired relationship between display elements. An authoring tool receives a desired attribute for a first display element, and the authoring tool generates style sheet language code for defining attributes of at least one other display element to maintain a predefined relationship between the display elements. Accordingly, as a developer defines (e.g., creates, modifies, etc.) attributes for one of the display elements, the authoring tool autonomously updates the style sheet language code to define the attributes of the other display elements to maintain the predefined relationship therebetween. In certain embodiments, the authoring tool provides an interface that enables a developer to directly define certain attributes of a display element, wherein the authoring tool generates style sheet language code to indirectly define the attributes in a manner that reflects the developer's direct definition thereof.
