A display system may comprise a radially symmetric mirror, a display screen, and a radial array of lenticular lenses. The mirror may be a frustum of a cone. Light from the screen may pass through the radial array and then reflect from the mirror, to create a 360-degree automultiscopic display. The automultiscopic display may display multiple rendered views of a 3D scene, each of which shows the scene from a different virtual camera angle. Which rendered view is visible may depend on the angular position of a user. Each lenticular lens may be wedge-shaped and may have a constant focal length and a constant height-width ratio. In some cases, slices from some, but not all, of the rendered views are displayed under any single lenticular lens at a given time. The lenticular array may be replaced by a holographic optical element, or by radial array of parallax barriers.

Methods and apparatus for radial automultiscopic display

In exemplary implementations of this invention, a basketball net or flat net measures the translational kinetic energy of a ball that passes through an aperture in the net or impacts the net. The net includes one or more electrically conductive cords, which have a resistance that varies depending on the degree to which the cord is stretched. From sensor measurements, a processor determines: (a) instantaneous rate of change of resistance, and (b) duration of a time period that begins when resistance exceeds a baseline (with hysteresis). In the case of a basketball net, a processor may calculate the translational kinetic energy of the ball as equal to a sum of two terms. The first term is inversely proportional to the square of the duration; the second is proportional to the square of the integral of the instantaneous rate of change of resistance over the time period.

Force-sensing net

In exemplary implementations of this invention, a main content feed is displayed on a main screen. A user may select one or more auxiliary feeds of content to display simultaneously on a second screen. The second screen is located on a handheld device. The user makes the selection by changing the orientation of the handheld device relative to the main screen. For example, the user may select which auxiliary feed to display by pointing the device at different areas that are around the periphery of the main screen. The handheld device includes one or more sensors for gathering data, and one or more processors for (a) processing the sensor data to calculate the orientation of the handheld device relative to the main screen and (b) based at least in part on that orientation, selecting which of the auxiliary feeds to display.

Methods and apparatus for accessing peripheral content

In an illustrative implementation of this invention, an animated holographic display is created as follows: Multiple HPO holograms in the shape of horizontal strips are recorded on an H2 medium. These horizontal strips are vertically displaced from each other. An animated real image is displayed by sequentially illuminating these HPO holograms. In illustrative implementations of this invention, the vertical perspective of at least some adjacent HPO stripes are identical.

Methods and apparatus for holographic animation

A technique for handling video signals so as to permit such signals to be satisfactorily displayed on video display devices, such as TV receivers or monitors, but to prevent such signals from being satisfactorily recorded by video recording devices. In a particular embodiment thereof the video frame time base is altered in a selected manner, as by lengthening or shortening the time bases of successive video frames, or successive groups of video frames. The alterations thereof can be in discrete steps and be performed cyclically so that during each overall cyclical time period the cumulative error is zero.
