A valve assembly for reversibly governing fluid flow through coiled tubing equipment. Valves of the assembly may be directed by a telemetric line running from an oilfield surface. In this manner, valve adjustment and/or reversibility need not require removal of the assembly from the well in order to attain manual accessibility. Similarly, operation of the valves is not reliant on any particular flow rate or other application limiting means. As such, multiple fluid treatments at a variety of different downhole locations may take place with a reduced number of trips into the well and without compromise to flow rate parameters of the treatments.

Surface controlled reversible coiled tubing valve assembly

A technique facilitates performance of a perforating operation in a wellbore. The technique comprises positioning a perforating gun assembly downhole in a wellbore via coiled tubing. The perforating gun assembly has a plurality of individually controllable perforating gun sections which may be selectively fired at different well zones. An optical fiber is deployed along the coiled tubing to deliver control signals to the perforating gun assembly. The control signals enable sequential firing of the individually controllable perforating gun sections at the desired locations, e.g. well zones, along the wellbore.

System and method for performing a perforation operation

A back-off tool for use in breaking a joint of a tubular disposed in a well. The tool is dual anchoring in nature such that breaking of the joint may be achieved with a degree of precision heretofore unavailable. Additionally, the dual anchoring nature of the tool at both sides of the joint allows for power requirements to be met through use of a dowhole power source incorporated into the tool. As a result, the use of heavier power carrying cables and equipment may be avoided as well as explosives or similarly hazardous and/or imprecise measures.

Dual anchoring tubular back-off tool

A sample module for a sampling while drilling tool includes a sample fluid flowline operatively connectable between a sample chamber and an inlet, for passing a downhole fluid. A primary piston divides the sample chamber into a sample volume and a buffer volume and includes a first face in fluid communication with the sample volume and a second face in fluid communication with the buffer volume. An agitator is disposed in the sample volume for agitating the sample fluid. A secondary piston includes a first face in fluid communication with the buffer volume having buffer fluid disposed therein and a second face.

Formation evaluation while drilling

A technique is provided to facilitate connection of completion assemblies at a downhole location. A completion assembly comprises a control line conduit having a connector designed for coupling with a corresponding connector of a next adjacent completion assembly. A cover is selectively used to block entry of debris and other contaminants into the connector during deployment of the completion assembly downhole prior to engagement with the next adjacent completion of assembly.

System and method for forming downhole connections

A sample module is provided for use in a downhole tool to obtain fluid from a subsurface formation penetrated by a wellbore. The sample module includes a sample chamber carried by the module for collecting a sample of formation fluid obtained from the formation via the downhole tool, and a validation chamber carried by the module for collecting a substantially smaller sample of formation fluid than the sample chamber. The validation chamber is removable from the sample module at the surface without disturbing the sample chamber. A sample chamber is also provided that includes a substantially cylindrical body capable of safely withstanding heating at the surface, following collection of a formation fluid sample via the downhole tool and withdrawal of the sample chamber from the wellbore, to temperatures necessary to promote recombination of the sample components within the chambers. Additionally, the body is equipped so as to be certified for transportation. At least one floating piston is slidably positioned within the body so as to define a fluid collection cavity and a pressurization cavity, whereby the pressurization cavity may be charged to control the pressure of the sample collected in the collection cavity. A second such piston may be provided to create a third cavity wherein a buffer fluid may be utilized during sample collection. Metal-to-metal seals act as the final shut-off seals for the sample collected in the collection cavity of the body. A method related to the use of the sample module and sample chamber described above is also provided.

Formation fluid sampling apparatus and method

A sample module is provided for use in a downhole tool to obtain fluid from a subsurface formation penetrated by a wellbore. The sample module includes a sample chamber carried by the module for collecting a sample of formation fluid obtained from the formation via the downhole tool, and a validation chamber carried by the module for collecting a substantially smaller sample of formation fluid than the sample chamber. The validation chamber is removable from the sample module at the surface without disturbing the sample chamber. A sample chamber is also provided that includes a subtantially cylindrical body capable of safely withstanding heating at the surface, following collection of a formation fluid sample via the downhole tool and withdrawal of the sample chamber from the wellbore, to temperatures necessary to promote recombination of the sample components wihtin the chambers. Additionally, the body is equipped so as to be certified for transportation. At least one floating piston is slidably positioned within the body so as to define a fluid collection cavity and a pressurization cavity, whereby the pressurization cavity may be charged to control the pressure of the sample collected in the collection cavity. A second such piston may be provided to create a third cavity wherein a buffer fluid may be utilized during sample collection. Metal-to-metal seals act as the final shut-off seals for the sample collected in the collection cavity of the body. A method related to the use of the sample module and sample chamber described above is also provided.

A downhole sampling tool and related method are provided. The tool is provided with a main flowline for communicating fluid from the formation through the tool. A main valve is positioned in the main flowline and defines a first portion and a second portion of the main flowline. At least one sample chamber with a slidable piston therein defining a sample cavity and a buffer cavity is also provided. The sample cavity is in selective fluid communication with the first portion of the main flowline via a first flowline and with the second portion of the main flowline via a second flowline. Fluid communication is selectively established between the sample cavity and the first and/or second portions of the main flowline for selectively flushing fluid through the sample cavity and/or collecting samples of the fluid therein. Fluid may also be discharged from the buffer cavity via a third flowline.

Reduced contamination sampling

A sample module for use in a downhole tool includes a sample chamber for receiving and storing pressurized fluid. A piston is slidably disposed in the chamber to define a sample cavity and a buffer cavity, and the cavities have variable volumes determined by movement of the piston. A first flowline is provided for communicating fluid obtained from a subsurface formation through the sample module. A second flowline connects the first flowline to the sample cavity, and a third flowline connects the first flowline to the buffer cavity for communicating buffer fluid out of the buffer cavity. A first valve capable of moving between a closed position and an open position is disposed in the second flowline for communicating flow of fluid from the first flowline to the sample cavity. When the first valve is in the open position, the sample cavity and the buffer cavity are in fluid communication with the first flowline and therefore have equivalent pressures.

A sample module for use in a downhole tool includes a sample chamber for receiving and storing pressurized fluid. A piston is slidably disposed in the chamber to define a sample cavity and a buffer cavity, and the cavities have variable volumes determined by movement of the piston. A first flowline is provided for communicating fluid obtained from a subsurface formation through the sample module. A second flowline connects the first flowline to the sample cavity, and a third flowline connects the sample cavity to one of the first flowline and an outlet port. A first valve is disposed in the second flowline for controlling the flow of fluid from the first flowline to the sample cavity, and a second valve is disposed in the third flowline for controlling the flow of fluid out of the sample cavity, whereby any fluid preloaded in the sample cavity may be flushed therefrom using the formation fluid in the first flowline and the first and second valves.
