The invention relates to a method of compensating for register deviations, which enables printing quality-reducing register deviations to be avoided at all printing or coating units of a rotary printing press. The method includes: a one-time determination of rotational vibrations in the driving gear train and of thereby caused register deviations between the printing or coating units only in the resonance regions of rotational speed under printing conditions within a rotary printing speed range; ascertaining counter-directed harmonic compensation moments from discrete harmonic portions of the rotational vibrations in the resonance range of rotational speeds; storing the parameters of the harmonic compensation moments and assigning them to the resonance ranges of rotational speed in the driving control system; and superimposing the stored compensation moments as a function of the rotational speed on the driving moment of the main drive motor in printing operation.

Method for making compensations for register deviations

A method for operating a printing press, which enables a uniform print quality to be achieved during long periods of operation without replacement of the impression cylinder. The printing press comprises several printing units having impression cylinders and a sheet turning device disposed between the printing units. The circumferential surface of the impression cylinder has an ink-repelling surface. The printing press is used to print sheets, until the ink-repelling surface of the circumferential surface of the impression cylinder has been worn away to an extent that the ink-repelling effect is less than a predetermined threshold value, after which a foil, of which the side facing away from the circumferential surface has an ink-repelling surface, is removably placed on the circumferential surface of the impression cylinder.

A dual motor drive system particularly adapted for the drive of long printing presses provides uncoupled control of both the voltage and current provided to the motors. Drive for multi-color rotary printing press having more than six

The drive for the multicolor rotary press has a main drive shaft, a connected synchronized gear train which extends substantially parallel to the drive shaft and which connects the press mechanisms with each other and a torsion spring-rod which couples the main drive shaft and the synchronized gear train. For coupling the main drive shaft with the synchronized gear train the torsion spring-rod is mounted on an axle journal of a press cylinder. To provide a drive for operation of the press at several different operating speeds a force-locking or frictionally-engaging coupling clutch is mounted on bevel gear shafts located between the press cylinder of one press mechanism drivable by a torsion spring-rod and another press cylinder of an adjacent press mechanism carrying a transversely moving linkage. One of the bevel gear shafts is driven by another gear coupled with the main drive shaft, so that, when the clutch is engaged, particularly at start-up and low speed operation, the press cylinders are driven without the torsion spring-rod, but when the clutch is disengaged, the press cylinders are driven through the torsion spring-rod thus damping oscillations due to gear teeth tolerances.

To guarantee an exact engagement of toothed flanks in the driving gear train of a multi-color sheet-fed rotary printing machine, the gears in the train pertaining to an intermediate printing unit of the machine are power supplied from a driving member which transmit a three-fold power portion in comparison to uniform power portions transmitted by driving elements assigned to the remaining printing units.

A sheet-gripping device for sheet-processing machines includes a sheet-gripping member with a sheet-supporting surface of non-elastic material and a counter sheet-gripping member with a counter sheet-supporting surface made of elastic material. A sheet gripping arrangement of a rotary printing machine has a sheet gripper abutment member, a soft gripper seat member, a gripper shaft having a gripper shaft pivot point, a sheet gripping element including a gripper finger cooperating with the gripper seat member and eccentrically pivotable relative to the gripper shaft about a gripper finger pivot point so as to move first over a substantially flat gripping path and then to move during its final movement phase normally to the latter, and a threaded abutment member arranged in the finger member and acting against the sheet gripper abutment member, wherein the gripper finger member is arranged at an angle of substantially 90.degree. to a contact point of the threaded abutment member with the sheet gripper abutment member, to the gripper finger point, and to the gripper shaft pivot point.

The control device for a suction gripper on a guiding cylinder of a sheet fed rotary press comprises a tumbler shaft mounted on the sheet guiding cylinder and a suction unit swingable about a pivot point which is supported for movement about the tumbler shaft. The suction unit is either positively driven by a cam drive or self-adjustable by means of a tension spring between the unit and the tumbler shaft.
