A method includes identifying machine process parameters for an additive manufacturing process to produce a part, providing a real-world sensor to sense a characteristic associated with a real-world version of the additive manufacturing process, receiving sensor readings from the real-world sensor while the machine is performing the real-world version of the additive manufacturing process, generating, with a computer-based processor, physics-based features associated with the additive manufacturing process, and training a machine-learning software model based at least in part on the machine process parameters, the sensor readings, and the physics-based features to predict a behavior of the real-world sensor.

An example embodiment designs a real-world object by defining a first model of the object being produced using an additive manufacturing (AM) process, where behavior of the object being produced is given by a first equation which includes a first plurality of corresponding sensitivity equations for a first plurality of design variables. Similarly, such an embodiment defines a second model of the object after being produced, wherein behavior of the object after being produced is given by a second equation which includes a second plurality of corresponding sensitivity equations for a second plurality of design variables. In turn, the second model is iteratively optimized with respect to a given one of the second plurality of design variables using both the first plurality of corresponding sensitivity equations and the second plurality of corresponding sensitivity equations.

Structural optimization of additively manufactured parts accounting for manufacturing-induced states

Methods and systems for providing accurate, scalable, and predictive 3D printing simulations using numerical methods for part-level simulations. Complex parts can be discretized into finite elements using independent and arbitrary meshing. The real additive manufacturing tooling path and printing time of a printing machine are simulated and applied to the mesh of finite elements using an intersection module that combines the finite element mesh with the tool path information of the printing machine in a geometric sense. This allows for localized heating effects to be simulated very accurately, and for cooling assessments to be precisely computed given the intersection module's computation of partial facets and volumes of the finite elements at any given time in the printing simulation.

Scalable finite element simulation of additive manufacturing

The present invention relates to a method and corresponding system for modeling a musculo-skeletal system. An embodiment of the method of the invention begins by scaling and positioning a musculo-skeletal model to correspond with motion capture data of a subject. Next, kinematically consistent motion data is generated from the motion capture data and then an inverse dynamic analysis of the musculo-skeletal model is performed using the generated kinematically consistent motion data, such that at least one analysis result is generated. The musculo-skeletal model is then updated to correspond with the at least one analysis result of the inverse dynamic analysis. Finally, the muscle activation of the updated musculo-skeletal model is optimized by determining at least one muscle force using the updated musculo-skeletal model, and by further updating the updated musculo-skeletal model to correspond with the determined at least one muscle force.

Musculo-skeletal modeling using finite element analysis, process integration, and design optimization

Modal dynamic analysis for finite element models (FEMs) that include Lagrange multipliers may generate incorrect stress and reaction forces. Computer systems and computer-implemented methods are provided for modifying the modal analysis to correctly generate stress and reaction forces. The systems and methods perform the modal analysis by employing a FEM and modeling stress and reaction forces of the FEM using Lagrange multipliers. The systems and methods calculate a correction term that comprises corrected values of the Lagrange multipliers. The methods and systems modify (and improve) the modal analysis by using the correction term to correct the Lagrange multipliers of the FEM, which enables the modal analysis to generate correct stress and reaction forces.

A computer-implemented method for use in analyzing a model of a repetitive structure includes generating a plurality of blocks based on the model such that the blocks are arranged end to end. The method also includes defining at least one boundary condition on an inlet of the model and on an outlet of the model, generating a plurality of constraints to be applied to the blocks to define connectivity between adjacent blocks, defining an inlet state based on the boundary condition and at least a portion of the constraints. The method further includes detecting when a first block passes a trigger plane at the inlet of the model, erasing a state of a second block at the outlet of the model, shuffling the second block to an inlet zone, and resetting the state of the second block to the inlet state.
