A method and apparatus for stripping electro-deposited metal sheets from a cathode blank. The blank has opposite faces, upstream and downstream ends. At least one sheet is provided on at least one blank face to define upstream and downstream edges. The apparatus comprises a stripping assembly for stripping the electro-deposited metal sheets from the cathode blank, a discharge assembly and a metal sheet out-feed assembly. The discharge assembly is positioned downstream of the stripping assembly and includes opposite guide rollers adapted to engage the metal sheet exiting the stripping assembly. The metal sheet out-feed assembly is positioned downstream the discharge assembly for receiving the metal sheet. When the metal sheet has been stripped from the cathode blank, the guide rollers controllably feed the metal sheet to the out-feed assembly. The method comprises stripping the metal sheets from the cathode and controllably discharging the stripped sheets to an out-feed assembly.

Method and apparatus for stripping electrodeposited metal sheets from permanent cathodes

A cathode for use in the refining or winning of metals, typically used in the electro-refining or winning of copper, comprising a substantially flat deposition plate fixedly attached along an upper edge thereof to an elongate hanger bar thereby defining a connection. A protective cladding is attached to the deposition plate and at least partially surrounding the hanger bar such that a cavity is defined in the region of the connection. A corrosion resistant material fills the cavity. In this manner the corrosion resistant material prevents corrosive substances from penetrating the connection. The corrosion resistant material prevents corrosive electrolytic solution and other liquids from corroding the conductive connection between the deposition plate and the hanger bar which would otherwise reduce efficiency of the cathode.

Encapsulated cathode hanger bar and method of manufacturing

The present invention provides a linear conveyer assembly for cathode plates comprising a continuous timing belt provided with cathode plate conveying assemblies attached thereto and having cam rollers running in a pair of channels running along either side of and parallel to a forward path of the belt. The conveying assemblies insure that the cathode plate conveying assemblies are aligned in an overhead position in such a way that the cathode plates move in a direction substantially perpendicular to a surface thereof. The timing belt is fabricated from a corrosive resistant material and allows an accurate positioning of the cathode plates due to a non-permanent stretch character thereof.

Cathode linear conveyer assembly

A method and apparatus for stripping electrodeposited metal sheets from permanent cathodes comprising a rotating carousel for receiving and sequentially advancing suspended permanent cathodes having electrodeposited metal sheets to a plurality of stations about the carousel including a loading station, a hammering station for loosening the upper edges of the metal sheets from the cathodes, an opening station for stripping of the metal sheets from the cathodes, a discharge station for discharge of pairs of metal sheets, and an unloading station for removal of stripped cathodes. The pairs of stripped metal sheets preferably are bottom discharged to a vertical envelope which is rotated to a horizontal position for removal of the metal sheets. Also, preferably, every second set of a pair of metal sheets is corrugated and alternate sets of planar and corrugated metal sheets are stacked to a predetermined height and bundled to form a novel bundle of metal sheets most suitable for melting.

Cathode stripping apparatus

A system for stripping electrolytically deposited zinc from relatively small size cathode sheets having a submerged or zinc plating area of approximately one square meter. A frame member is provided for supporting the cathode sheet holding arms which are mounted so as to permit the adjacently spaced sheets to move with respect to one another sufficient to facilitate mechanical stripping of the sheets. A water supply is further provided in the frame for washing the sheets prior to stripping. Once stripped, the sheet is lowered onto a conveyor which removes the zinc sheet from the frame area and stacks it adjacent one end of the frame.
