According to some aspects, a power conversion system for converting electrical power produced by a generator is provided. The power conversion system comprises at least one first power converter configured to convert alternating current from the generator to direct current, at least one second power converter configured to convert the direct current to alternating current, and least one controller configured to reconfigure the at least one first power converter to convert direct current to alternating current and/or to reconfigure the at least one second power converter to convert alternating current to direct current.

A method is provided for reducing an impact of an unbalanced short circuit event that occurs in a polyphase permanent magnet generator of a wind turbine. According to the method, an unbalanced short circuit event is detected in the generator of the wind turbine, and, in response to detecting the unbalanced short circuit event, at least one phase of the generator is shorted at a switch-point between the generator and a converter of the wind turbine to create a balanced short circuit in the generator. By doing so, the torque response of the generator is altered to avoid high amplitude torque oscillations that would otherwise occur as a result of the unbalanced short circuit event.

The present invention relates to a fault-tolerant control system for a wind turbine comprising a plurality of controllable wind turbine components, the control system comprising control means for generating a replica of essentially concurrent set-point values, a data communication network for transmitting the replica of essentially concurrent set-point values to the plurality of wind turbine components, and a plurality of decentralized voting means being arranged so that a decentralized voting means is assigned to each wind turbine component, each decentralized voting means being adapted to select one set-point value out of the replica of set-point values. The present invention further relates to a wind turbine and to an associated method.

A method for operating an electromechanical generator is provided, the method comprising: determining a magnetic field reference parameter based on an electromagnetic power reference representing a desired output of the electromechanical generator, determining a scaling factor for adjusting an air-gap magnetization level of the electromechanical generator to reduce loss in operating the electromechanical generator, modifying the magnetic field reference parameter with the scaling factor; and operating the electromechanical generator based on at least the modified magnetic field reference parameter.
