An example assembly includes a first guide positioned in a pre-print zone area of an imaging device. A second guide rotatably is connected to the imaging device and spaced apart from the first guide to permit a print medium to traverse between the first guide and the second guide. A bearing mechanism connects the second guide to the imaging device in the pre-print zone area. An interface mechanism is operatively connected to the second guide. A bias element is positioned between the interface mechanism and the second guide to release energy upon exposing the interface mechanism to the pre-print zone area allowing rotation of the second guide away from the first guide.

Print medium guides

A first position of a media is determined with respect to a surface. The surface is advanced and a second position of the media is determined with respect to the surface. The relative speed between the surface and a linear speed feed of the media is altered based on the first and second positions.

Feeder speed

A vacuum holddown for a hard copy device includes a platen having plural vacuum zones arranged in a side-by-side array across the platen. Each vacuum zone has a closed end and an open end and is coupled to a vacuum source. Each vacuum zone defines a recess in the upper surface of the platen that is fluidly coupled to the vacuum source through a port. The back walls and side walls of each vacuum zone are coplanar with the upper surface of the platen. A step may be positioned in the vacuum zones to define an open vacuum zone having multiple depths.

The present invention provides a printer having a platen, a chassis sidewall and an attachment portion connecting the platen to the chassis sidewall. The attachment portion biases the platen toward the chassis sidewall.

A holddown for a hard copy device comprises a member having a surface and plural vacuum zones. Each of the vacuum zones defines a cavity in the surface having at least one port therethrough, and each cavity is defined by a sidewall circumscribing the cavity. At least one of the cavities has sidewall with a first section at a first height relative to the surface and a second section at a second height relative to the surface.

A vacuum platen assembly for a fluid-ejection device of one embodiment of the invention is disclosed includes a platen that has a number of vacuum holes. Each of at least one of the vacuum holes has sidewalls with anti-clog profiles at least substantially prevent collection of media debris and aerosol on the sidewalls.
