A lapping system for lapping portions of a workpiece. The lapping system includes, a lap that is defined by a surface. Portions of the surface are a lapping surface. The lapping surface has a coating that enhances material removal from a workpiece in a lapping process. The lapping system further includes, a scanning probe microscope having a tip and a substrate. The scanning probe microscope controls lapping motion of the lap and workpiece.

Method and apparatus for nanolapping

Fuel capsules usable in inertial confinement fusion (ICF) reactors have shells made from materials having a diamond (sp) lattice structure, including diamond materials in synthetic crystalline, polycrystalline (ordered or disordered), nanocrystalline and amorphous forms. The interior of the shell is filled with a fusion fuel mixture, including any combination of deuterium and/or tritium and/or helium-3 and/or other fusible isotopes.

A transport and power system having a plurality of tubes or tunnels, a magnetic levitation and linear motor train, and a superconducting power cable. A carbon nanotube or similar structure is used as the final end tip structure in a Scanning Probe Microscope to measure, modify or identify material and reentrant structures in typical recesses or very small recesses. Further the nanotube or similar structure is acoustically driven such that its locus of motion forms a dynamic reentrant probe. The nanotube is calibrated by known vertical or reentrant structures.

Firearms or other projectile weapons include a GPS sensor, World Time RF sensor, orientation sensor for detecting the angle, acceleration (launch velocity), and direction in which the projectile will be launched along with a stored updatable list of times, GPS coordinates, distances from the GPS coordinates such that the weapon is disabled for use in these restricted areas if the projectile shall enter the restricted area. In addition, acceleration is used to detect a dropped or potentially damaged weapon such that the weapon is disabled and an emergency RF beacon is enabled (alternatively selected by the user).

Cartridges for firearms are created with extended flash tubes to ignite the propellant efficiently from base of the projectile to the interior rear of the cartridge case. Some firearms include a specially designed trigger and microphone capable of verifying a user's identity so that only an authorized user can discharge the firearm. Some firearms include a GPS sensor, World Time RF sensor, and stored updatable list of times, GPS coordinates, distances from the GPS coordinates such that the firearm is disabled for use in these restricted areas.

A gas (or fluid) is introduced around an SPM probe or Nanotool&#x2122; to control chemical activity e.g., oxygen to promote oxidation, argon to inhibit oxidation or clean dry air (CDA) to inhibit moisture to control static charging due to the action of the probe or nanotools and to provide vacuum at and around the tip and substrate area. Electrical current can be produced for use with active electronic devices on, in or near the body of the device. In addition by use of a fluid like water, certain oils, and other liquids in conjunction with specific tip structure either electric discharge machining can be used at the tip area on the tip itself (in conjunction with a form structure on the work piece) or on a work piece beneath the tip to shape, polish and remove material at very small scales (10 microns to 1 nm or less).

Techniques for performing services in a secure and scalable manner in a network environment. Code modules and data used for performing a service and that contain proprietary, confidential, or trade secret information, are stored and executed by service provider systems that are not exposed to user systems used to configure the service requests. The techniques are scalable as the number of service provider systems performing the services can be scaled, either up or down, in proportion to the demand for the services.

A method of making a mold includes forming spaced mold cavities in a mold body. The mold cavities include geometrically similar portions, but have respective depths below an initial reference surface that vary as a function of position along a particular direction. The mold cavities can be formed using anisotropic etching of preferred crystal directions in single crystal materials such as silicon. A portion of the mold material adjacent the initial reference surface is removed to expose a new reference surface at a tilt angle with respect to the initial reference surface. The modified mold cavities have their respective axes at a new desired tilt angle relative to the new reference surface.

A distributed group activity network system and corresponding method over a computer network. It synchronizes and provides access by system users to shared data files of a group activity. The distributed group activity network system comprises one or more server computers and client computers that are connected to the server computer(s) by network connections. Each of the server computers comprises a network server and a memory system. The system modules of the client computers use the memory systems of the client computers and the available basic network services at the server computer(s) to synchronize and provide access to the shared data files by the system users by also using the memory systems of the client computers and the available basic network services at the server computer(s) to synchronize access to and access the synchronization files.

Capsules and similar objects are made from materials having diamond (sp) lattice structures, including diamond materials in synthetic crystalline, polycrystalline (ordered or disordered), nanocrystalline and amorphous forms. The capsules generally include a hollow shell made of a diamond material that defines an interior region that may be empty or that may contain a fluid or solid material. Some of the capsules include access ports that can be used to fill the capsule with a fluid. Capsules and similar structures can be manufactured by growing diamond on suitably shaped substrates. In some of these methods, diamond shell sections are grown on substrates, then joined together. In other methods, a nearly complete diamond shell is grown around a form substrate, and the substrate can be removed through a relatively small opening in the shell.
