A method, system, and apparatus, for providing audio feedback regarding the operation of an aircraft. In one aspect, microphones are placed next to sound sources, which could be components of the aircraft. Audio inputs are received from the microphone and analyzed based on a psycho-acoustic model to provide settings, such as level, pan, and equalization, to an automatic mixer. The automatic mixer mixes the sounds based on the settings and provides audio output to the pilot of the aircraft. The pilot can then use the audio output to more effectively monitor the operations of the aircraft components, which might otherwise be difficult or impossible to hear.

Audio feedback regarding aircraft operation

A method and system compares combinations of vehicle or aircraft state variables against known combinations of potentially dangerous states. Alarms and error messages are selectively generated based on such comparisons. In one embodiment, pairs of aircraft state variables are selected and compared to known undesirable pairs of state combinations that indicate an error or a condition that a crew should monitor closely. The combinations and error messages are provided by the database. The comparisons are conducted on a periodic basis monitoring real time states of the parameters collected from various sensors and commands. Experts considering a matrix that provides an exhaustive pairwise comparison of potentially important state variables initially identify undesirable state combinations. Error messages and identification of potential alarms are generated based on both knowledge of actual accidents, and on use of expert knowledge to predict potentially dangerous states.

Flight safety system monitoring combinations of state values

Aircraft and other systems employing various condition settable parameters are controlled utilizing a command language, display, and input device for entering certain desired parameters with a parser programmed to interpret various alternate expressions which have been entered into a predetermined format recognizable by a computer which is operable to display the parsed command and upon approval to input the computer for controlling the desired parameter.

Method and apparatus for aircraft systems management

A system for producing vehicle routes such as aircraft flight plans in the presence of weather and other hazards defines static and moving hazards with polygons drawn on a display containing graphic hazard regions. Different hazard types and intensities are displayed differently. Both lateral and vertical geographic depictions are displayed, and hazards can be displayed temporally as well. Users input information and thresholds for hazards.

A method and apparatus using a simplified language consistent with air traffic control syntax for inputting, displaying and controlling the operation of a flight management system of an aircraft to comply with the instructions received by the pilot from the air traffic controller.
