An information handling system includes a server rack chassis, an adaptor assembly, and second and third servers. The server rack chassis includes a bay adapted to receive a first server that has a height that is substantially equal to a height of the bay. The adaptor assembly is inserted within the bay and includes first, second, third, and fourth slots to receive servers. The adaptor assembly is substantially the same size and dimension as the first server. The second server is inserted within the first slot of the adaptor assembly, and includes a first communication fabric. The height of the second server is substantially equal to a quarter of the height of the bay. The third server is inserted within the second slot of the adaptor assembly, and includes a second communication fabric. The height of the third server is substantially equal to a quarter of the height of the bay.

System and method for integrating multiple servers into single full height bay of a server rack chassis

A locking mechanism includes a latch, a handle, a first link, and a second link. The latch to engage with a recess of a server rack chassis, and to lock an adaptor assembly within the server rack chassis. The handle is connected to the latch, and engages and disengages the latch with the recess. The first link includes a first stub. The first link puts the first stub in an up position in response to the handle being in a down position, and puts the first stab in a down position in response to the handle being in an up position. The second link includes a second stub. The second link puts the second stub in a down position in response to the handle being in the down position, and puts the second stub in an up position in response to the handle being in the up position.

Locking mechanism for adaptor assembly of a server rack chassis

A locking mechanism includes a latch, a handle, a first link, and a second link. The latch to engage with a recess of a server rack chassis, and to lock an adaptor assembly within the server rack chassis. The handle is connected to the latch, and engages and disengages the latch with the recess. The first link includes a first stub. The first link puts the first stub in an up position in response to the handle being in a down position, and puts the first stub in a down position in response to the handle being in an up position. The second link includes a second stub. The second link puts the second stub in a down position in response to the handle being in the down position, and puts the second stub in an up position in response to the handle being in the up position.

A peripheral card EMI shielding scheme which comprises a sandwich of three layers. The first layer comprises a chassis rear wall (e.g., constructed of sheet metal). The next layer, which in certain embodiments is the middle of the sandwich, comprises a relatively thin plate (e.g., 0.15 mm+/&#x2212;0.1 mm) with spring arms. The third layer comprises a sheet metal plate (in certain embodiments, the third layer has a similar thickness to the rear wall). The thick sheet metal plate completely covers the thin plate, except for areas where the spring arms protrude. In one embodiment, a computer system includes but is not limited to a data processing system contiguous-reference alignment mechanism.

A computer, or other electronic device, according to which a handle is pivotally mounted to a component, such as a power supply, for installing the component supply in the computer chassis. After the component is inserted in the chassis, the handle is pivoted towards the component which establishes a fulcrum for forcing the component into the chassis. To remove the component from the chassis, the handle is pivoted away from the component which establishes a fulcrum to assist in the removal.

An apparatus for securing a removable component in a computer system includes a chassis for receiving the removable component. A resilient member is connected to the component and a handle is also connected to the component. The handle is movable to an open position and to a closed position. A catch is formed on the handle and the catch is engaged by the resilient member on the chassis to retain the handle in the closed position. A release member is connected to the handle. The release member is movable to deflect the resilient member so that the resilient member is disengaged from the catch to permit the handle to be moved to the open position.

An apparatus for securing a component in a computer system. The component is mounted in the chassis of the computer system. The apparatus includes a retaining bracket connected to the chassis of the computer system and a handle connected at a first end thereof to the component. The handle has a first and a second protrusion formed at the first end and has a recess formed between the first and second protrusions. The first protrusion engages the retaining bracket at a first surface thereof to limit the component to a first insertion depth in response to the component being removably inserted into the chassis with the handle in an open position. The second protrusion engages the retaining bracket at a second surface thereof and translates the component to a second insertion depth in response to the handle being moved to a closed position. The recess is configured to establish a clearance between the recess and the retaining member during movement of the handle between the open and closed position.

Apparatus for securing a removable component in a computer system

Method and apparatus for mounting a fan to a power supply in a computer are described. A camming handle pivotally connected to the power supply retains the fan and also provides an electrical connection between the fan and power supply. The fan is removably supported proximate to the power supply by the camming handle. Cooling requirements of the power supply dictate the type of fan selected for supporting within the camming handle. The camming handle pivots between open and closed positions with respect to the power supply. When the camming handle is in the closed position, the fan is disposed proximate, but external, to the power supply. A latch is provided for restraining the camming handle from pivotal movement when the camming handle is in the closed position. The camming handle includes two open slots which engage a ledge of the PC chassis. When manual force is applied to open or close the camming handle, leverage from the open slots simultaneously translates the power supply in the same direction as the applied force, thus engaging or disengaging, respectively, the power supply to or from the chassis.
