In a paper or board machine drying line after the wire section, during dewatering a web's (W) width is affected in a direction crosswise to the web's traveling direction. Starting from an edge, at least one device (A,B) brings about a force effect of a desired magnitude which is directed all the way to a desired arbitrary crosswise web position in order to modify web characteristics. A device in a paper or board machine line after the wire section has means for processing the web and for dewatering. The paper or board machine line after the wire section further has at least one device (A;B) for directing a force effect at a desired partial area (WS) of the web (W) in the cross machine direction in order to modify the web's characteristics profile in the cross machine direction.

A method and device for washing a drying wire in a dryer group in a dryer section of a paper or board machine in which the drying wire is guided by drying cylinders, reversing rolls and guide rolls. A liquid jet is directed at the drying wire at a location after a first one of the drying cylinders in the dryer group and before a last one of the drying cylinders in the dryer group and/or a location on a downward run of the drying wire from one of the drying cylinders. A method and device for drying and/or cooling a paper web or equivalent in which the web is passed over the circumference of a revolving roll on support of a face of a support wire that faces the roll. The web is dried and/or cooled by means of a gas blown through openings in the mantle of the roll into a space between the outer face of the roll and the web supported by the support wire, whereby a support zone formed by pressurized gas is formed between the outer face of the roll and the web. Humidified gas is passed out of the support zone into the interior of the roll through other openings in the mantle of the roll into a system of exhaust ducts placed inside the roll.

A method and apparatus for ventilating pocket spaces in a multi-cylinder dryer of a paper machine, in particular a high-speed paper machine whose running speed is higher than about 800 meters per minute, in the area of a so-called twin-wire draw. In the twin-wire draw, the drying cylinders in the drying group are arranged in two rows placed one above the other, in which rows the successive cylinders are placed in the upper row and in the lower row as interlocked. In each cylinder group, there are two drying wires, an upper wire and a lower wire for pressing the paper web against heated faces of the drying cylinder while being guided by guide rolls placed in gaps between the cylinders. The paper web runs as free draws between the rows of cylinders. Pocket spaces are formed in the area between the free draws of the web and the upper wire and its guide roll and the drying cylinder in the lower row and, in a corresponding manner, adjacent pocket spaces are formed in the area between the free draws of the web, the lower wire, its guide roll, and the drying cylinder in the upper row. The pocket spaces are ventilated by pumping air induced by the wire in the multi-cylinder dryer, wherein, at the inlet side of the guide roll, the wire pumps air into the pocket spaces through the wire and wherein the wire pumps air out of the pocket spaces at the outlet side of the guide roll of the wire. Air being pumped out through the wire on its run at the outlet side from the guide roll to the following cylinder is limited as compared with free pumping-in and pumping-out so as to control the pressure level and/or the flow status in the pocket spaces.

Method and device for ventilating pocket spaces in a multi-cylinder

The invention relates to a method and device for stabilizing a paper web in a group of cylinders in the dryer section of a paper machine. The group of cylinders are arranged in a row of drying cylinders and a corresponding row of leading rolls or equivalent placed as interlocked with the drying cylinders. The group of cylinders is provided with a single-wire draw so that the heated drying cylinders in the group are placed outside the loop of the drying wire and the leading rolls in the group are placed inside the loop of the drying wire. The stabilization device is arranged in the area between adjacent drying cylinders and the leading roll or equivalent placed as interlocked between the adjacent drying cylinders in the group of cylinders. Air is blow from the device and directed in the direction opposite to the running direction of the paper web. A nozzle opening of the stabilization device is shaped so that the air flow follows a substantially smooth face of the stabilization device while, at the same time, ejecting surrounding air along with it. In preferred embodiments, the smooth face is substantially parallel to the drying wire and the group of cylinders is formed as a compact geometry.

The invention is related to a blow and air-conditioning device for an inverted cylinder group in a drying section of a paper machine. The inverted cylinder group includes a lower row of drying cylinders and a corresponding row of leading cylinders or rolls placed above said cylinders in the gaps between them. The inverted cylinder group is provided with single-wire draw so that the heated drying cylinders placed in the lower row in the group, are placed outside the loop of a drying wire and the lead cylinders in the group are placed inside the drying-wire loop. A blow box is fitted in spaces between adjacent leading cylinders and above the drying cylinders. A nozzle of the blow box directs blowings into a wedge-shaped nip space opening in the direction of running of the web, which outlet nip space is defined between the face of the drying cylinder and the run of the web and of the drying wire. The blow box further includes nozzle slots or perforations which direct a set of jets at the web running over the leading cylinders in order to promote evaporation of water out of the web.

The invention concerns a method and an apparatus in a paper machine, in particular in its drying section, for intensification of the drying of the paper. In the method the paper web (W) is passed on support of a drying fabric onto a drying cylinder (K). In the method, in connection with the drying cylinder (K), a separate suction device (10) is employed, which is fitted at a distance (F) from the drying fabric, e.g. a wire (H), which follows the face of the drying cylinder. In the method, by means of the suction device (10), the boundary layer (S.sub.1) of moist air, which has been formed on the face of the drying fabric (H), is suctioned off, whereby the drying process is promoted.

A method and apparatus in a drying section of a paper making machine wherein a so-called single-wire draw is applied and wherein blow boxes (20) are used, which are intended to prevent phenomena that disturb the mutual support contact between the web (W) and the drying wire (12). The blow boxes (20) extend across the entire width of the web (W), and they communicate with members (17, 18, 21, 22) that supply blow air, and they are provided with at least two nozzle slots (13, 14) transverse to the running and longitudinal direction of the web (W) as well as with a carrier face (16) between said nozzle slots. A single-wire drying group in a paper machine is disclosed including a plurality of drying cylinders whose axes are situated in a substantially common plane, a drying wire carrying a web between successive drying cylinders, one or more deflection rolls, each situated between a pair of successive drying cylinders and wherein the web-carrying drying wire has an incoming run from a drying cylinder to a deflection roll whereupon the drying wire runs over a deflection sector of the deflection roll and then to a subsequent drying cylinder. A blow box has a wall which defines a gap space with the incoming run of the web-carrying wire and a gas flow is directed through the gap space to induce an under pressure on the incoming run to fix the web on the drying wire. The deflection roll has a perforated shell in the perforations of which an underpressure is maintained to ensure that the web remains in contact with the outer surface of the drying wire as the drying wire travels over the deflection or closed sector of the deflection roll.

A method of and arrangement for resisting formation of undulations in a fiber/water mixture supplied onto a forming wire at an open planar wire section of a paper-making machine include establishing over the wire an air curtain extending over the full breadth thereof, in the region of which the air mass upon the wire is set in motion. The direction of movement of the air mass is the same as the traveling direction of the wire, and the velocity of the air substantially equals the speed of the wire. The air curtain commences on the planar wire section, in the machine direction, only at a given distance from a lip slice of a headbox of the machine, and the air curtain extends along the traveling direction of the web over the planar wire section over a given distance.

Method for resisting formation of undulations in a fiber/water mixture

The present invention concerns a device for generating negative pressure inside a cylindrical roll mantle of a revolving roll. The roll has a roll mantle provided with through-holes, grooves or equivalent apertures and confining a suction chamber in the interior thereof, in which a negative pressure can be generated by suctioning air out of the suction chamber. A suction flow directed towards the suction chamber thereby prevails in the holes, grooves or equivalent apertures of the roll mantle. At least one rotor blower or equivalent is attached to the roll to revolve along with the roll, with an intake side of the rotor being connected to the suction chamber of the roll. The movement of rotation of the roll thereby produces rotary movement of the rotor or equivalent, which in turn generates negative pressure in the suction chamber. Thus, in the arrangement in accordance with the present invention, external equipment of negative pressure or a separate piping system is not needed.

A method and apparatus for inhibiting or preventing fluttering in a running paper web in a drying section of a paper machine, such as in the area of a twin-wire draw. Air jets are blown into pockets defined by a wire guide roll and wire itself, such air jets issuing from suitably designed and positioned blow boxes to be directed at the side of the wire supporting the web either in a direction towards or opposite from the running direction of the wire, and also at the side of the wire guide roll not supporting the wire, in a direction of the tangent of the guide roll. An air jet may also be blown into the pocket defined by the wire guide roll and the wire itself, at the side of the wire running free, not supporting any web, such air jet being directed substantially perpendicular to the wire. Fluttering of the paper web and drawbacks resulting from the same, such as wrinkles and breaks in the web, are inhibited or prevented.
