A system is disclosed that includes a first interface port, a second interface port, a signal splitter device, a main booster, and a front-end booster. The signal splitter device may include first, second, and third splitter ports. The signal splitter device may be configured such that a first direction signal received at either of the second and third splitter ports is output at the first splitter port and a second direction signal that is received at the first splitter port is output at each of the second and third splitter ports. The main booster may include main first and second direction amplification paths that are each communicatively coupled between the first splitter port and the first interface port. The front-end booster may include front-end first and second direction amplification paths that are each communicatively coupled between the second splitter port and the second interface port.

Multiple-port signal boosters

A method of configuring a signal booster may include receiving an indication that a first interface port of a first amplifier is configured such that external signals are not introduced to the first amplifier and measuring thermal noise output by the first amplifier at a second amplifier communicatively coupled to a second interface port of the first amplifier after receiving the indication. The method may further include determining signal loss between the first amplifier and the second amplifier based on the measured thermal noise and setting a gain of the second amplifier based on the signal loss.

Configuring signal boosters

An amplifier configured to handle oscillation is disclosed. The amplifier monitors a signal ratio to determine when the amplifier is oscillating. The gain is reduced when oscillation is detected and the amplifier is allowed to operate normally when oscillation is not detected.

Oscillation detection and oscillation mitigation in amplifiers

A method is provided for detecting and mitigating oscillation in an amplifier. The amplifier is configured to sample a signal being amplified to determine whether the amplifier is oscillating. In addition, the status of the amplifier can be verified based on the apparent signal levels of the signals being amplified. The gain of the amplifier is then adjusted in accordance with whether the amplifier is oscillating or as necessary to maintain gain that is compatible with the system within which the amplifier is operating.

Verifying oscillation in amplifiers and the mitigation thereof

An amplifier for controlling or reducing broadband noise is disclosed. An amplifier determines whether a useful signal is being amplified and controls the gain of the amplifier at least when useful signals are not being amplified to prevent or minimize the amplification of noise.

Radio frequency amplifier noise reduction system

A common-direction duplexer may include a common port, a first-band port, and a second-band port. The common-direction duplexer may also include a first filter between the common port and the first-band port. The first filter may be configured to pass a first frequency range and filter out a second frequency range and a third frequency range. The first and second frequency ranges may be associated with a first-direction signal transmitted in the first and/or second frequency range. The third frequency range may be spectrally between the first and second frequency ranges and may be associated with a second-direction signal that propagates in a direction opposite that of the first-direction signal. The common-direction duplexer may also include a second filter between the common port and the second-band port. The second filter may be configured to pass the second frequency range and filter out the first and third frequency ranges.

Common-direction duplexer

A method is provided for detecting and mitigating oscillation in a booster amplifier. The booster amplifier is configured to sample a signal being amplified to determine whether the booster amplifier is oscillating. In addition, the status of the booster amplifier can be verified based on the apparent signal levels of the signals being amplified. The gain of the booster amplifier is then adjusted in accordance with whether the booster amplifier is oscillating or as necessary to maintain gain that is compatible with the system within which the booster amplifier is operating.

Verifying and mitigating oscillation in amplifiers

An amplifier is provided for optimizing gain. The amplifier determines an optimal gain from inputs including the forward link and reverse link input power. The inputs are processed to determine an optimal gain of the amplifier. The optimal gain may be accessed from a lookup table that accounts for characteristics of the amplifier, the cell phone (or other device), and the base station (or base stations). The optimal gain is set to account at least for industry standards, amplifier oscillation issues, base station overload protection, and base station noise floor protection.
