Radio frequency antenna is buried in the earth with its top substantially flush with the surface with a significant portion of the antenna buried therebelow. The antenna is configured so that, if much of the top is removed, as by blast, the remaining portion of the antenna remains operative without significant functional deterioration.

Erodible buried radio frequency transmitting and receiving antenna

An improvement for a ring laser gyro employs pulsed optical signals in a er optic loop. Clockwise and counterclockwise traveling pulsed optical signals are generated by a pair of optical amplifiers and a beamsplitter/coupler feeds the signals to a detector. The clockwise and counterclockwise signals do not meet in either of the optical amplifiers, but do arrive in coincidence at the beamsplitter and detector. Although low rotation rate lock-in limits the minimum detection rate in a continuous wave laser gyro, it does not so restrict the pulsed laser gyro's ability to detect low rotation rates because there is little, if any, coupling between the clockwise and counterclockwise modes of signal propagation.

Pulsed ring laser fiber gyro

A transmitting antenna that can be inflated with air or a liquid dielectric nd floated in seawater. It consists of a cuplike cavity backing a radiating annular slot antenna. It can be used to communicate to submarines or surface ships or as a navigation transmitting antenna. It is small compared to the wavelength of the operating frequency.
