Devices and methods based upon the concept of a split ring () having certain multiple interior angles () to engage a stem or post () having annular ring(s) with angular geometries that are complimentary to those of the split ring. The disclosure provides designs for a wide range of insertion and desertion forces between latch engagement stems and latch engagement bodies. Changes to insertion contact angles and contact area on engagement stems and corresponding changes to insertion contact angles and engagement areas on engagement bodies can significantly modify insertion forces required to engage various devices. Similarly, changes in degrees of angle between desertion angles and contact areas on engagement stems with corresponding changes in desertion angles and contact areas on engagement bodies will significantly modify the total desertion forces required to disengage various devices. Accordingly, the instant latching mechanism provides insertion and desertion forces that can be controlled independently of each other.

The drawer slide assembly may include an elongate member including a first slot extending through an upper region and a second slot. The drawer slide assembly may further include a first end cap coupled to the first end region of the elongate member, wherein the first end cap has a first projection that extends at least in part through the first opening; and a second end cap coupled to the second end region of the elongate member, wherein the second end cap has a second projection that extends at least in part through the second opening.

In some example implementations, a drawer slide assembly may include an elongate member including a first slot extending through an upper region and a second slot. The drawer slide assembly may further include a first end cap coupled to the first end region of the elongate member, in which the first end cap has a first projection that extends at least in part through the first opening. The drawer slide assembly may also include a second end cap coupled to the second end region of the elongate member, in which the second end cap has a second projection that extends at least in part through the second opening.

In one aspect, a latching system includes a housing, a female receptacle and a post. The housing has a channel extending along a first axis within an interior of the housing, an opening extending along a second axis normal to the first axis, and attachment features disposed on an exterior surface of the housing. The female receptacle is configured to couple to the housing within the channel and includes a center aperture and a saddle portion disposed between a first portion and a second portion. The female receptacle is configured to receive at least some of the post such that the surface of the saddle portion aligns with at least some of a groove of the post. Various acute angles of the female receptacle and the post control the force required to insert and remove the post from the female receptacle.

In some example implementations, a drawer slide assembly may including an elongate member including a first slot extending through an upper region and a second slot. The drawer slide assembly may further include a first end cap coupled to the first end region of the elongate member, in which the first end cap has a first projection that extends at least in part through the first opening. The drawer slide assembly may also include a second end cap coupled to the second end region of the elongate member, in which the second end cap has a second projection that extends at least in part through the second opening.

An orthotic vending machine may comprise a measuring apparatus and an orthotic fabricating apparatus. The measuring apparatus may comprises a plurality of probes capable of sensing pressure at various pixels on the underside surfaces of the person's feet at various configurations (e.g., flat plane, shoe contour, or prescriptive optimal) and determining the heights at the various pixels for the various configurations. The fabricating apparatus may lay down a plurality of discs on a base layer having different hardnesses based on the measured pressure and heights by the measuring apparatus to fabricate customized orthotics. Alternatively, the fabricating apparatus may form the customized orthotic via solidifying a polymerizeable material in a honeycomb structure based on the measured pressure and heights by the measuring apparatus. As a further alternative, the fabricating apparatus may form the customized orthotic via milling orthotic blanks based on the measured pressure and heights by the measuring apparatus. The orthotic vending machine may be placed in shoe retail shops such that shoe purchasers may purchase a shoe and a customized orthotic during one visit to the shoe store.
