An improved ultrasonic waveguide for an ultrasonic thermometry system is provided. The waveguide includes a series of sensing zones, each of which is tuned to a specific narrow frequency band. The waveguide is acoustically coupled to a transducer, which launches a longitudinal elastic wave of desired waveform and frequency. The wave propagates down the waveguide, and is reflected from the sensing zone that is tuned to that frequency. Each sensing zone is designed to be highly reflective to a narrow frequency band while being transparent to other frequencies.

Ultrasonic waveguide for improved ultrasonic thermometry

A gasket assembly for attaching a window to a panel opening includes an inner frame, an outer frame, and an elastic material connecting the inner frame to the outer frame. The elastic material extends contiguously and circumferentially to couple the outer frame to the inner frame. The outer frame and inner frame can include gap flanges and the elastic material can include opposing lateral side portions. The gap flanges are embedded in the lateral side portions of the elastic material. The outer frame includes connecting structure for coupling of the outer frame to the panel opening. The inner frame includes a connecting structure for coupling of the gasket assembly to the window. The gasket assembly is configured to support the window in the panel opening and form a seal between the panel opening and the window. A method of making a gasket assembly is also disclosed.

Interface gasket for building envelope

The present invention provides a multi-range force sensor comprising a load cell made of a shape memory alloy, a strain sensing system, a temperature modulating system, and a temperature monitoring system. The ability of the force sensor to measure contact forces in multiple ranges is effected by the change in temperature of the shape memory alloy. The heating and cooling system functions to place the shape memory alloy of the load cell in either a low temperature, low strength phase for measuring small contact forces, or a high temperature, high strength phase for measuring large contact forces. Once the load cell is in the desired phase, the strain sensing system is utilized to obtain the applied contact force. The temperature monitoring system is utilized to ensure that the shape memory alloy is in one phase or the other.

Multi-range force sensors utilizing shape memory alloys

An actuator for cycling between first and second positions includes a first shaped memory alloy (SMA) leg, a second SMA leg. At least one heating/cooling device is thermally connected to at least one of the legs, each heating/cooling device capable of simultaneously heating one leg while cooling the other leg. The heating/cooling devices can include thermoelectric and/or thermoionic elements.
