There is disclosed herein examples of systems and methods for compressing a signal. Samples of the signal can be segmented and the samples within each of the segments can be averaged to produce a value that can represent the samples within the segment. The number of samples to average in each segment may be determined based on an error threshold, such that the number of samples being averaged can be maximized to produce less data to be transmitted while maintaining the representation of the samples within the error threshold. In some embodiments, a signal can be separated into a timing reference, a representative periodic function, and a highly compressible error signal. The error signal can be utilized for reproducing a representation of the signal.

The present disclosure describes an apparatus for determining the condition of a subject's heart. The apparatus includes a patch adhered to a chest of the subject, the patch further including at least one ultrasound sensor for directing an ultrasound beam to the subject's heart and receiving a reflection of the beam; control circuitry for generating data signals based on the beam reflection indicative of a distance of the heart from the ultrasound sensor; and a processing system for receiving the data signals from the control circuitry and processing the data signals to track movement of the subject's heart over time, wherein changes in the movement correlate to the subject's heart condition.

An impedance measurement system for detecting an analyte in a sample is disclosed. The system includes first, second, and third electrodes, wherein at least a portion of the third electrode is positioned between the first and second electrodes, means for generating an electromagnetic field between the first and second electrodes, means for electrically controlling the third electrode, wherein the third electrode modifies the electromagnetic field, and a processor for detecting a presence of the analyte in the sample, based at least in part on a property of the electromagnetic field.

Impedance measurement in diagnostic testing

There is disclosed herein examples of systems and methods of processing captured heart sounds with frequency-dependent normalization. Based on an amount of attenuation of a first heart sound, a second heart sound can be normalized by modifying portions of the second heart sound by amounts determined based on frequencies of the portions. Accordingly, the systems and methods disclosed herein can result in different amounts of modification of different portions of the second heart sound based on the different frequencies of the portions.
