An architecture disposed in an integrated circuit for in-application programming of flash-based programmable logic devices includes a processor coupled to a processor system bus. An I/O peripheral is coupled to the processor over the system bus and is also coupled to an off-chip data source. A programmable logic device fabric includes flash-based programmable devices. A program controller is coupled to the flash-based programmable devices. An in-application programming controller is coupled to the program controller and is coupled to the processor over the system bus.

In general, a method and apparatus for decoding an encoded digital image is disclosed. An image decoder receives an encoded digital image and determines if the image can be directly decoded and displayed on a display monitor. By directly decoding the encoded digital image, the image decoder eliminates unnecessary intermediate decoding processes.

Image decode optimization techniques

A method and apparatus implementing a separate child context for each applet (or similar element) of a browser. A described embodiment of the present invention provides one or more child contexts that correspond to elements in the HTML for a web page displayed by a browser. For example, each applet executed by the browser has a corresponding and separate child context that points to an associated portion of a browser memory. The browser also has a parent context, which each child context points to. When a graphic is displayed via a widget, the widget draws the graphic (such as a panel or a non-pressed button) in the child context of the applet and sets a &ldquo;damage&rdquo; flag in the child context. When the browser performs its main browser loop, it checks the status of the damaged flag for each element (including each applet). If the browser finds a damage flag that is set, this means that something was written into the portion of the browser memory corresponding to the child context and that the parent buffer needs updating. In this case, the browser &ldquo;pulls&rdquo; the information from the portion of browser memory corresponding to the child context into the parent buffer, which is then used to update the display screen.

A method and apparatus under software control for pattern recognition utilizes a neural network implementation to recognize two dimensional input images which are sufficiently similar to a database of previously stored two dimensional images. Images are first image processed and subjected to a Fourier transform which yields a power spectrum. An in-class to out-of-class study is performed on a typical collection of images in order to determine the most discriminatory regions of the Fourier transform. A feature vector consisting of the highest order (most discriminatory) magnitude information from the power spectrum of the Fourier transform of the image is formed. Feature vectors are input to a neural network having preferably two hidden layers, input dimensionality of the number of elements in the feature vector and output dimensionality of the number of data elements stored in the database. Unique identifier numbers are preferably stored along with the feature vector. Application of a query feature vector to the neural network will result in an output vector. The output vector is subjected to statistical analysis to determine if a sufficiently high confidence level exists to indicate that a successful identification has been made. Where a successful identification has occurred, the unique identifier number may be displayed.
