Quarantine stations are steered to a hidden virtual access point for quarantining multicast and broadcast traffic from other traffic on an access point, or other device. The hidden virtual access point can be spawned, with the same configurations as a non-quarantine virtual access point, for on demand traffic containment. The data stream transmitted over Wi-Fi to the quarantine client using a different GTK key generated under virtual access point of hidden SSID for encryption of the multicast or broadcast transmission, and the data packet stream transmitted over wi-fi to the non-quarantine station using different GTK key generated under virtual access point SSID of regular SSID for encryption of the multicast or broadcast transmission.

Method and system for determining a location of wireless device

Systems and methods for steering WiFi clients based on capabilities of the clients and access points (APs) are provided. According to one embodiment, multiple access points (APs) of a wireless local area network (WLAN) receives probe requests from a WLAN client for joining the WLAN. The APs forward the probe requests to an AP controller (AC) that controls the APs of the WLAN. The AC selects one or more of the multiple APs based at least on the matching of the capability of the WLAN client and capabilities of the multiple APs and sends a confirmation to one or more of selected APs. The selected APs accept the probe requests to allow the WLAN client to join the WLAN through the one or more selected APs.

Steering wireless local area network (WLAN) clients

Provided are devices, computer-program products, and methods (e.g., methods implemented by a network device), for automatic provisioning of an access point. In some implementations, a network device may receive a request for provisioning information. In some implementations, a group name is determined. In these implementations, the group name may be determined using information provided in the request. In some implementations, provisioning information is selected. In these implementations, selecting the provisioning information includes using the group name. In some implementations, the selected provisioning information is transmitted. In these implementations, provisioning information facilitates self-configuration of un-provisioned network devices.

Auto provisioning of bulk access points

Provided are devices, computer-program products, and methods for automatic provisioning of an access point. In some implementations, a network device may connect to a network. Connecting may include automatically receiving a group name. In some implementations, a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) request may be transmitted. A DHCP response message may also be received. The DHCP response message may provide an Internet Protocol (IP) address. The IP addressed may facilitate communication by the network device with the network. Controller information may be received. The controller information may include a controller IP address. Provisioning information may be requested. This request may include the group name and the controller IP address. Provisioning information may be received. Provisioning information may be associated with the controller IP address. The provisioning information may facilitate self-configuration of a network device. The operation of the network device may be configured using the provisioning information.

The present disclosure discloses a system and a method for providing power save aware multicast support. Specifically, a network device first determines that each of a first subset of client devices, of a plurality of client devices, is associated with a first characteristic indicating that the first subset of client devices is not in a power save mode. Based at least on the first determination, the network device transmits a message in a multicast format to the first subset of client devices. Second, the network device determines that each of a second subset of client devices, of the plurality of client devices, is associated with a second characteristic indicating that the second subset of client devices is in a power save mode. Based at least on the second determination, the network device transmits the message in a unicast format to each of the second subset of client devices.

Power save aware multicast support

The present disclosure discloses a distributed radio management system that is capable of dynamically tuning a radio antenna to a particular radio frequency channel and/or radio frequency band. The disclosed network device includes a transceiver, an antenna, and a component on a wireless signal path between the transceiver and the antenna. The component includes functionality to dynamically switch between processing signals corresponding to a first radio frequency band and processing signals corresponding to a second radio frequency band. Moreover, the component also may include functionality to dynamically switch between processing signals and refraining from processing wireless signals that are received by the component.

According to one embodiment of the invention, a system for providing a dynamic user-customizable beacon information element (IE) is described. One embodiment of the system comprises an access point comprising a hardware processor wherein the system is configured to perform operations comprising: periodically transmitting, by an access point, a first beacon frame comprising a plurality of IEs, based on user input, configuring at least one IE of the plurality of IEs in the first beacon frame, modifying the at least one IE in the first beacon frame based at least on the user input to obtain a second beacon frame comprising a modified IE based on the user input and periodically transmitting, by the access point, the second beacon frame comprising the modified IE.

Dynamic user-configurable information element

A method includes steering client devices to access points that potentially increase capacity of communications using beamformed transmissions. In particular, this includes determining the best access points for beamforming to a particular client or a group of clients in the network for an improved throughput performance in the deployment or a subset of access points.

Dynamic beamforming configuration based on network conditions

A method is described for dynamically assigning tasks to entities of different types within a network system based on preferences to perform the tasks on particular entities and/or network/device conditions. This ability to dynamically assign processing of tasks between disparate devices in a network system provides a more efficient network configuration and utilization of resources while not compromising throughput, overall network security, and/or network flexibility.

Method for dynamic load balancing in campus deployments

The present disclosure discloses a method and network device for efficient frame aggregation. Specifically, a network device queues a first set of packets until one of the first set of aggregation limits is detected. The network device then transmits the first set of packets, and receives feedback information. Then, the network device modifies the first set of aggregation limits to obtain a second set of aggregation limits based on the feedback information. The network device queues a second set of packets until one of the second set of aggregation limits is detected, and then transmits the second set of packets. Also, the network device determines whether a received packet has a particular characteristic. If so, the network device transmits the first set of packets before at least one of the first set of aggregation limits is detected.

System and method for efficient frame aggregation based on aggregation limits or parameters

A method includes determining, for a particular time period, a scheduled location for a device based on a schedule corresponding to a user of the device. The method further includes configuring a set of network devices, that have a signal coverage area which includes the scheduled location, such that a first subset of the network devices is configured for connecting with the first client device during the particular time period and a second subset of network devices is configured for not connecting with the first client device during the particular time period.

Described are systems, methods, and devices used for reducing scanning time while communicating between wireless mobile computing devices within a wireless communications network. The method includes the following step(s): receiving communication data from one or more APs within a network, the communication data being specific to each of the one or more APs and transmitting the communication data to an MU within the network. The MU is associated with a first AP and the MU associates with a second AP based on the communication data as the MU roams to the second AP. The method further includes the steps of: associating, by an MU, with a first AP within a network, receiving communication data from the first AP, the communication data including information specific to each of one or more further APs, and associating with one of the further APs based on the communication data.
