This invention relates to latex compositions that incorporate at least one bioactive component such as an antibacterial or antifungal agent, and methods for making and using such latex compositions. The latex compositions disclosed herein can be prepared by the emulsion polymerization of the latex component monomers in the presence of the at least one bioactive component.

The present invention relates to a substrate having one or more antimicrobial or antistatic properties. Such properties are imparted by applying a coating or film formed from a cationically-charged polymer composition. The polymer composition includes a noncationic ethylenically unsaturated monomer and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer capable of providing a cationic charge to the polymer composition. Optionally, the polymer composition includes a steric stabilization component incorporated into the cationically-charged polymer composition. The present invention also relates to a personal care product and polymeric material comprising a base polymer blended with the above cationically-charged polymer composition.

Colloidally stabilized emulsions

The present invention relates to a substrate having antimicrobial and/or antistatic properties. Such properties are imparted by applying a coating or film formed from a cationically-charged polymer composition. The polymer composition includes a noncationic ethylenically unsaturated monomer, an ethylenically unsaturated monomer capable of providing a cationic charge to the polymer composition, and a steric stabilization component incorporated into the cationically-charged polymer composition. The present invention also relates to a polymeric material comprising a base polymer blended with the above cationically-charged polymer composition.

The curable urethane polymer adhesive or coating of the present invention comprises at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer and in one embodiment an aliphatic conjugated diene monomer, a hydroxy functional monomer, and a colloid having hydroxy functionality and a moiety having isocyanate functionality. The colloid having hydroxy functionality is present with the ethylenically unsaturated monomer and the hydroxy-functional monomer during polymerization so as to become incorporated into the latex to provide stabilization.

Curable urethane polymer adhesives and coatings

A polymer latex composition suitable for rubber articles comprises about 5 to about 65 weight percent of an aromatic vinyl monomer, about 35 to about 90 weight percent of a conjugated diene monomer, and about 0.5 to about 10 weight percent of a component selected from the group consisting of an unsaturated acid monomer, a partial ester of an unsaturated polycarboxylic acid, and mixtures thereof. The polymer latex composition has a gel content of no more than about 85 percent.

Elastomeric material for rubber articles

An emulsion polymer is disclosed by the present invention. In particular, the emulsion polymer comprises a protective colloid and a functionalized silane component which is of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R' is C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl, R' is C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl, R is SH, CH.sub.2 .dbd.CH--, CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(CH.sub.3)--C(O)O--, CH.sub.2 .dbd.CH--C(O)O--, and ##STR2## n is 1-10, and m is 2 or 3.

Colloidally stabilized emulsion polymer

A polymer latex composition suitable for making rubber articles comprises about 80 to about 99 weight percent of a conjugated diene monomer; above 0 to about 10 weight percent of an unsaturated acid monomer; and from 0 to about 20 weight percent of an additional unsaturated monomer. The polymer latex composition has a glass transition temperature of no greater than about -50.degree. C.

In one aspect, a stabilized emulsion polymer comprises an aliphatic conjugated diene monomer; a monomer selected from the group consisting of a non-aromatic unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic ester monomer, an unsaturated aromatic monomer, a nitrogen-containing monomer, and mixtures thereof; a protective colloid; and a surfactant which has ethylenic unsaturation. As a result, the surfactant is polymerized with the monomer and is incorporated into the backbone of the emulsion polymer. In another aspect, the stabilized emulsion polymer includes an oxyalkylene functional monomer selected from the group consisting of: ##STR1## monoesters of mono- and dicarboxylic acids, diesters of dicarboxylic acids, and mixtures thereof; wherein R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; R' is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; R' is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; and n is an integer ranging from 1 to 30. The oxyalkylene functional monomer reacts with the monomer and thus becomes incorporated into the backbone of the emulsion polymer.

Collaidally stabilized butadiene emulsions

The present invention provides an article of manufacture comprising a textile substrate and a coating being a polymer comprising a non-aromatic unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic ester monomer and an aliphatic conjugated diene monomer. An unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acid monomer or a monomer based on the half esters of the dicarboxylic acid monomer can also be included. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a method of preparing a textile substrate comprising applying to a surface of the textile substrate a coating, the coating being a polymer comprising a non-aromatic unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic ester monomer and an aliphatic conjugated diene and heating the surface of the textile substrate to dry the coating.
