A first edge device includes a processor configured to capture sensing information of the surrounding area and periodically communicate the sensing information, which includes position and time-of-day data, to a central cloud server. Based on the obtained sensing information, the processor obtains initial access information and sets various parameters, including beam indices for uplink and downlink communication, a Physical Cell Identity (PCID) for base station connection, and a beam configuration to service user equipment (UEs). The first edge device also communicates beam alignment information to the central cloud server and correlates the beam alignment information with the sensing data to generate a connectivity-enhanced database that specifies time-of-day-specific beam alignment and wireless connectivity relationships. The processor dynamically adjusts the beam configuration based on real-time environmental conditions and UE demands in the surrounding area of the first edge device.

Central cloud server and edge devices assisted high speed low-latency wireless connectivity

A communication system includes a first edge device that obtains timing information at a first time instant from a radio access network (RAN) node or a central cloud server. The timing information is indicative of a unique system frame number or a sub-frame of the unique system frame number that is to be received at the first edge device. The first edge device detects the unique system frame number or the sub-frame of the unique system frame number at a second time instant. The first edge device executes a switching event in which a new communication link is established with a second edge device. The first edge device periodically checks whether the new communication link has a signal strength greater than a threshold to maintain a continuity in an uplink communication and a downlink communication between one or more user equipment (UEs) and the RAN node via the mesh network.

Communication system and method for operating a 5G mesh network for service continuity

A first edge device includes a first antenna array and a sensor that senses a surrounding area of the first edge device. The first edge device further includes control circuitry that detects a first user in the surrounding area of the first edge device, tracks the detected first user in the surrounding area of the first edge device based on the sensor, controls the first antenna array to direct the first beam of radio frequency (RF) signal in a first direction of the tracked first user, where the first beam of RF signal has a first radiation pattern and a signal strength greater than a first threshold, and communicates an assistance request to a central cloud server in a case where one or more defined service continuity criteria are met.

Edge device and method for sensor-assisted beamforming

An edge device that includes a processor which obtains sensing information of a surrounding area from one or more external sensing devices in a communication range of the edge device. The processor communicates the sensing information to a central cloud server and obtains wireless connectivity enhanced information from the central cloud server based on the communicated sensing information. The wireless connectivity enhanced information is for a first user equipment (UE) and a second UE. The processor directs a first beam of radio frequency (RF) signal in a first wireless carrier network to the first UE and a second beam of RF signal in a second wireless carrier network to the second UE based on the obtained wireless connectivity enhanced information for the first UE and the second UE.

Edge device and method for handling service for multiple service providers

A communication system includes a plurality of edge devices comprising a first edge device. The first edge device fires a plurality of first beams from a donor antenna array based on different first beam indexes and fires a plurality of second beams from one or more relay antenna arrays based on different second beam indexes. The first edge device measures signal strength of each fired beam, identifies a donor beam index and one or more relay beam indexes based on the measured signal strengths exceeding a threshold, establishes a first communication link to an upstream neighboring node based on the identified donor beam index, creates one or more second communication links to one or more downstream neighboring nodes based on the identified relay beam indexes, and creates a mesh network of the plurality of edge devices based on the established communication links.

An edge device that includes first antenna arrays at donor side and second antenna arrays at service side of the edge device, and a processor that obtains wireless connectivity enhanced information from a central cloud server based on a position of the edge device, where the wireless connectivity enhanced information is provided for a first user equipment (UE) and a second UE, and includes selected initial access information to accelerate a UE-specific beam alignment for each of the first UE and the second UE and connectivity to a corresponding base station from the edge device bypassing an initial access-search on the edge device. An edge device includes an antenna array and a sensor that senses a surrounding area of the edge device. A first edge device includes a processor that captures and communicates position information of the first edge device and a time-of-day. The first edge device detects the unique system frame number or the sub-frame of the unique system frame number at a second time instant. The new communication link corresponds to a change triggered in a mesh network to maintain a continuity in uplink and downlink communication between one or more UEs and the RAN node via the mesh network.

A communication apparatus that includes an antenna array comprising a plurality of antenna elements, a plurality of thermoelectric devices distributed across the plurality of antenna element of the antenna array, each of the plurality of thermoelectric devices covers a different subset of a plurality of subsets of the plurality of antenna elements, and a processor coupled to the antenna array and the plurality of thermoelectric devices. The processor detects variation in power consumption in the plurality of antenna elements of the antenna array on a basis of a change in a performance state of the plurality of antenna elements, and controls the plurality of thermoelectric devices to substantially equalize a temperature associated with the plurality of antenna elements for substantial equalization of the performance state of the plurality of antenna elements, where the plurality of thermoelectric devices is controlled based on the detected variation in the power consumption.

Communication apparatus and method for adaptive cooling of antenna elements

An edge device that includes one or more first antenna arrays at a donor side of the edge device, and one or more second antenna arrays at a service side of the edge device. The edge device obtains wireless connectivity enhanced information from a central cloud server. The edge device receives a first donor beam associated with a first wireless carrier network (WCN) from a first base station via the one or more first antenna arrays and receives a second donor beam associated with a second WCN from a second base station. The edge device receives two or more time division duplex (TDD) patterns from two or more base stations of different service providers, finds a common TDD pattern for the received two or more TDD patterns, and follows the common TDD pattern for switching RF signals between different WCNs of different service providers for uplink and downlink communication.

An edge device includes an antenna array having a first portion and one or more second portions different from the first portion. Communication system and method for operating 5G mesh network for enhanced coverage and ultra-reliable communication

A road-side unit (RSU) device receives a first request from a vehicle that moves along a travel path. The vehicle includes an edge device. A second request is communicated to an inference server based on the received first request. The second request includes an input feature corresponding to sensing information of the vehicle. A response is received from the inference server based on the communicated second request. The response includes wireless connectivity enhanced information including specific initial access information, and the specific initial access information enables the RSU devices to bypass an initial access search on the RSU device, and direct at least one specific beam of radio frequency (RF) signal to the edge device of the vehicle based on the wireless connectivity enhanced information.
