A method for updating an application program on a wireless terminal in a controlled manner is disclosed. When, a server receives an inquiry from a wireless terminal for updating an application program, the server determines whether there is an updated program available for updating the application program based on information included in the inquiry from the wireless terminal. The server also determines whether updating the application program of the wireless terminal which sent the inquiry is permitted or not at the time of receiving the inquiry based on the information included in the inquiry and criteria information stored in the server. When the server determines that updating the application for the wireless terminal is available and is permitted, the server sends information necessary for updating the application program to the wireless terminal. Then, the wireless terminal updates the application program.

Method for updating an application program on a wireless terminal in a controlled manner

Systems, methods, and an article of manufacture for delivering an application to a mobile station are shown and described. In some instances, a list of mobiles stations not currently executing a specific application is generated, processed, and used to send a solicitation message to certain mobile station. Various mobile stations receive different versions of the application based on characteristics of the mobile station.

Systems and methods for delivering an application over a mobile communications network

Disclosed procedures automatically identify a carrier-authorized mobile station and verify an account related identifier associated with the device, in response to start-up of an application in the device. Application start-up causes the device to send a request to an application server, with the device's current IP address, MTN and a device identifier such as MEID or ESN. The server queries an AAA system of the network to retrieve the MTN that has been assigned the IP address. If the retrieved MTN matches the MTN passed to the server in the request, the server queries a network database such as DMD for the device identifier associated with the MTN. A match of the device identifier retrieved from the network database with that passed to the server via the request indicates authenticity of the requesting device and its MTN.

Connection pooling is proved in the context of middleware. A request is first received from an application. The received request is forwarded to a back end mechanism. When a response is received from the back end mechanism, as a response to the request, information is obtained from the response. A pool of database connections is maintained with at least a minimum number of connections open, where the minimum number of connections is determined independent of one or more application threads. To store the information in a database, a database connection is allocated from a pool of open database connections created to facilitate access to the database. After the information is stored in the database using the database connection, the database connection is returned to the pool of database connections.

A single computer may be configured to function as a multiple client simulator that tests a push engine by simultaneously simulating multiple clients. The multiple client simulator may be configured to open and simultaneously maintain a large number of connections with the push engine. To facilitate this, a virtual interface module may be used to multiply the effective number of IP addresses of the single computer. The default number of ports that are available for each IP address may also be increased, along with the available number of file descriptors.

A mobile station provides an Interactive Multimedia Response to a user's call. The mobile station detects when a user dials a predetermined telephone number. In response, at least one visual object representing available services is displayed. In response to a user's input, at least one visual object representing a service selected by the user may be displayed. In a Call Intercept Mode, the mobile station detects a telephone number entered by the user to initiate an outgoing call to a destination that provides account-specific data. The mobile station then conducts a data communication with a self service server of the communication service provider to obtain the account-specific data corresponding to the detected telephone number. Upon receiving the account-specific data, at least one visual object including the requested account-specific data is displayed on the mobile device.

Web service requests, received through a common communication port in a server or network device from a variety of client applications, are analyzed to determine whether to convert one communication type request into another type. Any necessary conversions are performed, and converted and unconverted service requests of one type only are routed to a web service application that accepts only a desired communication type as input. In some circumstances, the response to the client application making the original service request is converted back into the communication type initially used although other response formats may be supported.

The instant application describes examples of managing a customer's mobile station and providing a notification of a resultant change. The disclosed examples provide for a subscriber device management application that executes on a customer's mobile device that allows changes to be made remotely to an operational control parameter of mobile station. In response to a change to the operation control parameter, a notification may be sent as a mobile messaging service message to a mobile station other than the customer's mobile station.

A push messaging platform includes a push server system having push engines (PE) for maintaining persistent connections with mobile devices, and push controllers (PC) for maintaining records of mobile devices' connections. The platform provides high scalability by including a load balancer for distributing connection requests received from mobile devices across the PEs, and dispatchers for forwarding each received message to a PC associated with the mobile device identified in the message. The platform provides high availability by using local backup PCs and remote mirror PCs. A global registered process (GRP) on each PC is linked to a process on a backup PC, and the backup process replaces the GRP if the GRP fails. Local registered processes (LRP) on each PC are linked to corresponding processes on a remotely located mirror PC, and the mirror process replaces the LRP if the LRP fails.

A method and apparatus for setting a wireless terminal for a service are disclosed. The wireless terminal automatically sends identification information to a server by dialing a predetermined number. Upon receiving the identification information, the server finds customer information corresponding to the identification information, and determines one or more services which are available on the wireless terminal. The server sends service information indicating the available services. The wireless terminal displays a list of the available services, and upon detecting a selection of an available service, sends a request to transfer an application program for setting up the selected service to the server. The wireless terminal executes the downloaded application program and displays guidance for setting up the available service. In response to user inputs based on the displayed guidance, the selected service is activated and set-up in the wireless terminal.

A persistent connection is used for real-time or near real-time data transfer from a push platform on a network to a mobile station. To establish and maintain the persistent connection between the mobile station and push platform on the network, various protocols are defined over a packet connection between the mobile station and push platform. The real-time or near real-time data is pushed or sent by the push platform to the mobile station, as the data becomes available from a data source. In particular, heartbeat messages are used to determine whether or not the persistent connection is alive and available for real-time or near real-time data transfer. When the persistent connection is lost, the mobile station uses a retry connection scheme based on the number of connection attempts made by the mobile station for establishing a new persistent connection to the push platform.

A customer communication system of a mobile communication network automatically generates a report concerning the location of a customer notification file within the customer communication system to allow for easier file review in response to an error message. In the examples, a file information database is accessed to obtain information regarding the expected file name or expected location of the customer notification file. Using the file information, a search is conducted for the location of the customer notification file. Error correction information is also collected regarding the customer notification file. The system then generates a report combining the information regarding the location of the customer notification file with the reference information regarding any error correction instructions. The report is published, thereby allowing any user responsible for the correction of an error message to access the file location information and the associated error correction instructions.

A server system and a mobile device establish a push data framework for communication. The mobile device includes a push client, and runs one or more applications requiring push data communications. The push client transmits a device authentication and application validation request to a push server. Upon the push server successfully authenticating and validating the device and application, the push client receives a session identifier for establishing a persistent communication connection with the push server. Once established, an application server can push data to the mobile device via the persistent communication session. The session identifier remains valid for an extended period of time, and allows the push client to maintain and re-establish push connections with the push server for the duration of the extended period of time.

A mobile communication network offers notification to an account holder upon occurrence of an infraction of a subscriber selected restriction by operation of one of the mobile stations under the subscriber's account. In the examples, the subscriber can select a directory number/station under the account, a desired one of a number of available restriction options and one or more parameters of the selected restriction. When the mobile communication network detects an infraction, caused by operation of the mobile station through the network, a system or processor obtains a destination address designated for an account holder, for the subscriber's account, such as the directory number for one of the subscriber's stations selected as that of the account holder. The system sends a notification of the infraction intended for the account holder, using the destination address, for example, as a text message sent through the network to the account holder's mobile station.

The instant application describes a method of managing a customer's mobile station and providing a notification of a resultant change. The method includes steps of communicating over the air through a mobile communication network with a subscriber device management application running on the customer's mobile station; causing the subscriber device management application to attempt to change an operational control parameter of the customer's mobile station, via the over the air communication; and determining an outcome of the attempted change of the operational control parameter of the customer's mobile station. The method also includes a step of sending a mobile messaging service message, providing notification of the attempted change of the operational control parameter of the customer's mobile station, through the mobile communication network to another mobile station associated with the customer.
