An elevator includes an elevator shaft defined by surrounding walls and top and bottom end terminals; an elevator car vertically movable in the elevator shaft; elevator hoisting ropes coupled to the elevator car; an elevator hoisting machine including a traction sheave engaged with the elevator hoisting ropes; a traction monitor configured to determine traction of the hoisting machine; an electromechanical brake; a measuring apparatus adapted to provide speed data and position data of the elevator car; and a safety processor associated with the traction monitor and the measuring apparatus. The safety processor includes an ETLS threshold configured to decrease towards the top and/or bottom end terminal in accordance with the position of the elevator car. The ETSL threshold is adjusted on the basis of the traction of the hoisting machine. The safety processor is configured to determine an elevator car slowdown failure if the speed data meets or exceeds the ETSL threshold.

Elevator

In an elevator system, so as to avoid unwanted safety gear tripping, the kinetic energy, which is caused by inertia of the overspeed governor rope to the lever arm, is dissipated by implementing fluid viscous damping to dampen the rotary movement of the spindle shaft to prevent unwanted safety gear tripping in the event when the upwards movement of the moving mass is decelerated by a machinery brake to perform a quick stop of the moving mass. The fluid viscous damping is effected by a viscous fluid damper which is arranged in the synchronization linkage mounted to the moving mass.

Method for avoiding unwanted safety gear tripping in a safety stopping system of an elevator system, a safety stopping system, and an elevator system

An elevator includes a hoistway; an elevator car vertically movable in the hoistway, the passage to and/or from the elevator car being provided in depth direction of the hoistway; a counterweight vertically movable in the hoistway beside the elevator car in width direction of the hoistway; one or more ropes interconnecting the elevator car and the counterweight and hanging from these; a rope wheel arrangement in the bottom end of the hoistway for guiding the one or more ropes; and a vertically oriented guide rail for guiding the elevator car extending between the elevator car and counterweight. The elevator includes a bridge structure mounted on the floor of the hoistway, the bridge structure including a cross member, wherein the guide rail for guiding the elevator car is mounted on top of the cross member, the bridge structure including a passage for the one or more ropes below the cross member, and the one or more ropes pass from the counterweight downwards to the rope wheel arrangement, and the rope wheel arrangement is arranged to guide the one or more ropes to pass below the cross member via said passage and up to the elevator car.
