A composite polymer composition comprising the emulsion polymerization product of: (i) an aqueous dispersion comprising the melt kneading product of one or more polyolefins, from 2 to 25 wt % of one or more dispersion stabilizing agents, water and optionally a neutralizing agent, and (ii) one or more (meth)acrylic monomers; wherein the one or more polyolefins have a Tg equal to or less than 50&#xb0; C. and comprise from 0.5 to 100 wt % functionalized polyolefin; and wherein the melt kneading product (i) comprises polymer particles having a volume average particle size between 150 nm and 2000 nm dispersed in the water; and wherein the one or more (meth)acrylic monomers polymerize onto the polymer particles form composite polymer particles using an emulsion polymerization process is provided.

Composite polymer composition

A composite polymer composition comprising: the emulsion polymerization product of: (i) an aqueous polyolefin dispersion comprising the melt kneading product of one or more polyolefins, from 2 to 25 wt % of one or more dispersion stabilizing agents and water, and (ii) one or more (meth)acrylic monomers; wherein the one or more polyolefins have a Tg equal to or less than 50&#xb0; C.; and wherein the melt kneading product (i) comprises polymer particles having a volume average particle size between 150 nm and 2000 nm dispersed in the water; and wherein the one or more (meth)acrylic monomers polymerize onto the polymer particles form composite polymer particles is provided. Also provided is a method of making the composition and impact modifiers comprising the composition.

Polyolefin/(meth)acrylic impact modifier and method of preparing same

A multi-stage polymer composition comprising a crosslinked core having a Tg of from &#x2212;85 to &#x2212;10&#xb0; C.; an intermediate region which comprises one or more intermediate layers, wherein each of the intermediate layers comprises from 88.5 to 99.9 weight percent of units derived from a one or more monomers selected from the group consisting of alkyl (meth)acrylate monomers, from 0 to 5 weight percent of units derived from a cross-linking monomer, a graft-linking monomer, or a combination of two or more thereof, optionally from 0 to 2 weight percent units derived from one or more chain transfer agents; wherein there is a compositional gradient between the intermediate layers such that the Tg transitions from &#x2212;30&#xb0; C. to 70&#xb0; C. over the width of the intermediate region, and an outermost layer which has a Tg of from 40&#xb0; C. to 110&#xb0; C. is provided.

Multi-stage polymer composition and films made therefrom

A polymeric powder composition prepared from an emulsion blend comprising from 95 to less than 100 percent by weight latex based substrate polymer, wherein the latex based substrate polymer comprises units derived from one or more monomers selected from the group consisting of alkyl (meth)acrylates, functionalized alkyl(meth)acrylates styrene, acrylonitrile, butadiene, chloroprene, vinyl chloride, (meth)acrylates, vinyl acetate, and combinations of two or more thereof and wherein the latex based substrate polymer has a Tg equal to or greater than 60&#xb0; C. and an average particle size between 100 nm and 10 &#x3bc;m; and from greater than 0 to 5 percent by weight binder latex polymer, wherein the binder has a Tg of equal to or less than 10&#xb0; C. and has units derived from one or more (meth)acrylic monomers, and wherein the binder polymer has an average particle size from 50 to 250 nm is provided.

Polymeric powder composition and a method of producing same

A blend comprising from 50 to 95 percent by weight polycarbonate; and from 5 to 50 percent by weight modified methyl methacrylate polymer, wherein the modified methyl methacrylate polymer is selected from the group consisting of modified methyl methacrylate homopolymer, modified methyl methacrylate copolymers, and combinations thereof; wherein the modified methyl methacrylate polymer has one or more end groups provided by reaction with one or more chain transfer agents selected from the group consisting of mercapto esters, cycloalkyl and substituted cycloalkyl thiols, hydroxyl thiols, aryl and substituted aryl thiols, and aminoalkyl thiols, wherein the modified methyl methacrylate polymer has a Mw from 5,000 to 100,000 g/mole; and wherein the blend exhibits a pencil hardness equal to or greater than F measured according to ASTM D3363-05 is provided. A method for preparing a polycarbonate/modified methyl methacrylate blend is also provided.

Polycarbonate blend and method of producing the same

The instant invention provides a thermoplastic composition, method of producing the same, and articles made therefrom. The thermoplastic composition according to present invention comprises the melt blending product of: (A) from 55 to 95 percent by weight of a thermoplastic matrix comprising one or more thermoplastic polymers; and (B) from 5 to 45 percent by weight of a dispersed phase which comprises a crosslinked (meth)acrylate copolymer, wherein the (meth)acrylate copolymer comprises at least 95 percent by weight derived from methyl methacrylate units and from greater than zero to less than 0.5 percent by weight derived from one or more multifunctional cross-linking monomers and/or graft-linking agents; wherein the difference in refractive index between components (A) and (B) is greater than 0.08.

Thermoplastic composition, method of producing the same, and articles made therefrom

A thermoplastic composition comprising the melt blending product of one or more thermoplastic polymers; and from 2 to 20 PHR, of one or more gloss reducing additives wherein each gloss reducing additive comprises a (meth)acrylate copolymer having a glass transition temperature of greater than or equal to 40&#xb0; C. and 0.001 to 0.04 PHM derived from one or more crosslinking monomers and/or graft-linking agents having two or more ethylenically unsaturated radicals capable of free-radical polymerization, wherein a test specimen produced from the thermoplastic composition has roughness according to DIN 4768 of Ra greater than or equal to 0.6 microns, Rz greater than or equal to 6 microns, Rmax greater than or equal to 7 microns, and a gloss less than 65, 75 degree angle, is provided. Methods for producing the thermoplastic compositions, methods for producing articles from the thermoplastic compositions and such articles are also provided.

A thermoplastic composition comprising from 60 percent to 99 percent by weight of one or more thermoplastic polymers; and from 40 percent to 1 percent by weight of an additive comprising a crosslinked (meth)acrylate polymer, wherein the crosslinked methylmethacrylate polymer comprises at least 99.5 percent by weight derived from methyl methacrylate units, and from greater than zero to less than 0.5 percent by weight derived from one or more multifunctional crosslinking monomers; wherein the crosslinked (meth)acrylate polymer has a volume average particle size of equal to or less than 1.0 micron; and wherein an article produced from the scratch-resistant thermoplastic composition has a hardness of greater than F is provided. A multi-stage polymer composition comprising a crosslinked core component, one or more intermediate layer components and an outermost layer component in which the refractive index of each of the crosslinked core, the one or more intermediate layers and the outermost layer are within 2% of the refractive index of each adjacent component; wherein the crosslinked core component comprises from 75 to 99.9 weight percent of units derived from at least one first monomer selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aryl, and cycloalkyl (meth)acrylate monomer, optionally from 1 to 20 weight percent of units derived from a second monomer selected from the group consisting vinyl monomers; and from 0.1 to 5 weight percent of units derived from cross-linking monomers, graft-linking monomers, or combination thereof, and has a Tg of from &#x2212;75 to &#x2212;35&#xb0; C.; wherein each of the one or more intermediate layer components comprises from 71 to 99.9 weight percent of units derived from a third monomer selected from the group consisting alkyl, aryl and cycloalkyl (meth)acrylate monomers, from 0 to 5 weight percent of units derived from a cross-linking monomer, graft-linking monomer, or combination thereof, optionally from 1 to 10 weight percent of units derived from one or more functional monomers, from 0 to 14 weight percent of vinyl monomers, and has a Tg of from &#x2212;35 to 100&#xb0; C.; and wherein the outermost layer component comprises from 90 to 100 weight percent units derived from a fourth monomer selected from the group consisting of alkyl (meth)acrylate having from one to twelve carbon atoms, optionally from 0.5 to 10 weight percent of units derived from one or more functional monomers, and has a Tg of from 80 to 130&#xb0; C. is provided. Films and polarizer plates made from the compositions are also provided.

Multi-stage polymer composition and films and polarizer plates made therefrom

The instant invention provides a thermoplastic composition, method of producing the same, and articles made therefrom. The thermoplastic composition according to present invention comprises the melt blending product of: (a) from 10 to 75 percent by weight of a continuous phase, based on the total weight of the thermoplastic composition, wherein said continuous phase comprises one or more thermoplastic polymers; and (b) from 25 to 90 percent by weight of a dispersed phase comprising one or more core/shell polymer particles, based on the total weight of the thermoplastic composition, wherein said one or more core/shell polymer particles comprise a crosslinked elastomer core and a thermoplastic shell and wherein said core/shell polymer has an average particle size diameter in the range of from 70 to 10,000 nm.
