A head wireline tension control system may determine a head tension based on a speed of the tool driving equipment and a cable speed of the cable as a function of an operation of the winch. A head tension regulation error may be determined based on a comparison of the head tension and a target head tension, and the head tension control system may operate the winch or the tool driving equipment according to an operating zone that includes the head tension regulation error. The operating zone may be defined by a first range of values for a difference between the speed of the tool driving equipment and the cable speed, and a first range of values for a difference between the head tension and the target head tension.

Systems and methods for controlling head tension

A method of controlling operation of equipment that spools cable on and off a rotatable drum, in one or more embodiments, includes obtaining video data of a position of the cable on the rotatable drum. The method can also include feeding data into a trained artificial neural network and processing the data fed into the trained artificial neural network to determine at least one of a calculated position of the cable on the rotatable drum, a calculated fleet angle, or both. The method can also include actuating the rotatable drum to one of spool cable on and off the rotatable drum.

Methods and systems for controlling operation of wireline cable spooling equipment

Systems and methods presented herein include a cable spooling system that includes a drum configured to rotate about a central axis of the drum to wind and unwind a cable onto and from the drum as the drum rotates. The cable spooling system also includes one or more cameras configured to capture images of the drum as it rotates. The cable spooling system further includes one or more markers disposed on one or more flanges of the drum. The one or more markers are configured to be in view of the one or more cameras during a portion of rotation of the drum. In addition, the cable spooling system includes a data processing and control system configured to estimate an angular velocity of the drum using the images captured by the one or more cameras.

The present disclosure relates to a system that is operable to receive an execution plan and execute a control operation on one or more equipment based operations within the execution plan. The one or more operations may include a data capturing operation associated with a resource site. In one embodiment, the system may be operable to execute at least a first operation in response to a success variable of the data capturing operation indicating a successful execution of the data capturing operation. The first operation may include a quality control operation that is executed by comparing at least one characteristic of the captured data to an expected characteristic to generate quality state data. The quality state data may have one of an acceptable status and an undesirable status. In response to the quality state data indicating an acceptable status for the quality control operation, executing at least a second operation.

A system for wireline service planning and advising includes a receiver, one or more computing system processors, and a transmitter. The receiver is configured to receive, from a user of the system, an objective parameter for interpreting a state of a well barrier. The one or more computing system processors is in communication with the receiver and configured to generate a plurality of candidate services based on the objective parameter and a model of the well barrier, each candidate service specifying sensor data to be acquired using wireline tools, select at least one wireline service from the wireline candidate services based on a selection logic or input by the user, and generate an execution plan specifying operational parameters of the selected wireline service. The transmitter is in communication with the one or more computing system processors and configured to transmit the execution plan to execute the selected wireline service at a wellsite.

Autonomous wireline operations in oil and gas fields

A cable coater system for a downhole tool includes a cable coater. The cable coater may include a housing and one or more rollers that are coupled to the housing, wherein the one or more rollers are configured to rest on the downhole cable while guiding the cable through openings in the cable coater during wireline operations. The cable coater may remain on cable during all spooling (on and off) activities for the duration of operations and activated to coat the cable upon the final pull out of hole and prior to storage of the cable. The spooling in and out of the cable may further be automatically controlled by providing a positional indicator of the cable coater and thus where the cable is in three-dimensional space relative the spool.

A method of controlling operation of equipment that spools an elongated member on and off a rotatable drum, in one or more embodiments, includes obtaining video data of a position of the elongated member on the rotatable drum. The method can also include feeding data into a trained artificial neural network and processing the data fed into the trained artificial neural network to determine at least one of a calculated position of the elongated member on the rotatable drum, a calculated fleet angle, or both. The present disclosure relates to a telemetry tool for use in a well. The telemetry tool has a hollow, conductive waveguide through which a non-conductive fluid can flow. A transmitter and a receiver are disposed in the hollow interior of the waveguide, separated by some desired distance. A signal is transmitted by the transmitter, propagated by the waveguide, and received by the receiver.

An embodiment of a wireless telemetry system for providing signal communication across a wired-communication gap in a bottom-hole assembly ('BHA'), the BHA having an upper portion and a lower portion separated by the wired-communication gap, includes an upper transceiver positioned in the upper portion and in signal communication with a surface telemetry system and a lower transceiver positioned in the lower portion and in signal communication with a drilling tool, the upper and the lower transceivers in signal communication with one another via wireless induction telemetry. Each transceiver may include an antenna that is positioned within the bore of a drill collar adjacent to a thinned wall section in the drill collar. The thinned wall section may include one or more of increasing an inside diameter relative to a base inside diameter of the bore and decreasing an outside diameter relative to a base outside diameter of the drill collar.
