A system including a polymeric sheet. The polymeric sheet comprises a base sheet having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface and a multiplicity of spaced rails projecting from the first surface of the base sheet. The rails comprise a stem portion attached to and substantially upright from the first surface of the base sheet and a top portion on the distal end of the stem opposite the base sheet. The top portion comprises a first surface opposite the base sheet and a second surface facing the first surface of the base sheet. Additionally, the rails have a length greater than the width of the stems. The first surface of the base sheet, the second surface of the top portion and the surface of the stem defines a cavity with walls, and an adhesive coated on at least a portion of the cavity wall.

Coextruded polymeric article and method of making the same

An adhesive composition is described comprising a polyisobutylene polymer component; and up to 30 wt.-% of at least one aliphatic multifunctional component comprising at least two ethylenically unsaturated groups selected from (meth)acryl or vinyl ether. The monomer comprises a hydrocarbon moiety with greater than 12 contiguous carbon atoms. When the hydrocarbon moiety is branched, the hydrocarbon moiety comprises side chains with at least two carbon atoms. The aliphatic multifunctional component is sufficiently compatible such that crosslinked adhesive composition at a thickness of 20 microns has a haze of less than 3%. Coextended polymeric article comprising a layer comprising first and second opposed major surfaces, wherein a plurality of attached projection pairs comprising first and second projections extend from only the first major surface (i.e., the second major surface is free of any projections), wherein each first projection has at least first and second opposed sides and a height from the first major surface to a distal end, wherein each first projection has at least first and second opposed sides and a height from the first major surface to a distal end. Articles comprising first and second coextruded polymeric nettings are described. The articles comprise a plurality of pairs of first segments comprising a first material. Adjacent first segments are joined together via a second segments comprising second material, wherein the second segments extend past the first major surface of each first adjacent segments. The articles further include an adhesive on at least one of the first or second major surfaces of the first segment. The first segments, second segments, and third material each extend continuously for at least 5 mm in the machine direction, and the first and second materials of adjacent pairs are periodically bonded together in the machine direction. A portion of some of the first segments of the first coextruded polymeric netting are engaged between some of the adjacent first segments of the second coextruded polymeric netting.

Coextruded polymeric nettings and method of making the same

A composition is described comprising a styrene-isobutylene block copolymer; and at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer. After curing the composition comprises polymerized units of the ethylenically unsaturated monomer. In some embodiments the ethylenically unsaturated groups are selected from (meth)acryl or vinyl ether. The composition is suitable for use as a (e.g. pressure sensitive) adhesive. Articles, methods of making an article, and methods of bonding are also described.

Composition comprising styrene isobutylene block copolymer and ethylenically unsaturated monomer

The present invention is directed to synthetic attachment discs made from adhesive nanofibers and/or microfibers that are capable of attaching long fibers to a wide variety of surfaces, and related methods for forming and using them. The synthetic attachment discs of the present invention use very little material relative to prior art systems, while producing a very strong attachment force. Experimental and theoretical evidence are provided to confirm the advantages of thousands of micron-size 'staple-pins' and their low peeling angles to enhance the adhesive forces required to peel the synthetic attachment discs. The present invention provides a unique strategy for designing new adhesives that use very little material for various biomedical and material science applications.
