An airfoil assembly extends along a radial direction between a root and a tip, the airfoil assembly comprising: a first blade segment positioned proximate the root of the airfoil assembly; a second blade segment positioned adjacent the first blade segment along the radial direction; and a tensioning assembly comprising a plurality of tensioning strings that extend between and mechanically couple the first blade segment and the second blade segment.

An airfoil assembly and a method of manufacturing the same are provided, the airfoil assembly defining a span axis, a root end, and a tip end. The airfoil assembly includes a reinforcement structure comprising a first helical support structure wrapped around the span axis between the root end and the tip end and a second helical support structure wrapped around the span axis between the root end and the tip end; a polymeric matrix material positioned at least partially around the reinforcement structure; and an outer skin positioned around the reinforcement structure and the polymeric matrix material.

A heat engine including a liner extended along a first dimension and a second dimension, wherein the liner includes a plurality of cavities formed by a honeycomb structure. Each cavity forms a volume extended from an opening at a fluid contact side of the liner and along a third dimension substantially orthogonal to the first dimension and the second dimension. The opening at the fluid contact side includes a cross sectional area of each respective volume of the plurality of cavities. The plurality of cavities is non-uniform with respect to the cross sectional area at the opening along the first dimension, the second dimension, or both.

A wind blade is provided. The wind blade includes a body having an aerodynamic contour extended between a blade root and a blade tip. The wind blade also includes an extension tip sleeve arranged over the blade tip. The extension tip sleeve further includes a first portion having an extension blade and one or more structural ribs arranged on a pressure side of the wind blade. The extension tip sleeve also includes a second portion having a support structure located on a suction side of the wind blade. Furthermore, the wind blade includes a fairing having an airfoil shape for covering the one or more structural ribs, and the support structure of the extension tip sleeve.
