This invention pertains to a method by which the frequency and the modulation characteristics of a wire or wirelessly transmitted signal can be identified in a matter of milliseconds with significantly higher speed and accuracy than with existing or prior art receivers and spectrum analyzers, without erroneous image signals. Such signals can be then demodulated and decisions made based upon the demodulated data. The system then can be reconfigured to act as a transmit-receive module, with the transmit frequency enabled to address many different applications. This has applications in, terrestrial and satellite communications, and defense.

High speed adaptive sweep capable digital transceiver

This invention describes a method by which Broadband Spectrum Analysis can be performed in the RF and Microwave frequency range with significantly higher speed, accuracy, and flexibility than existing RF and Microwave Spectrum Analyzers. This is done by eliminating the need for the filtering of the incoming signal, a process called preselection that needs to track in frequency with the scanning local oscillator in the instrument. By eliminating this requirement, this invention makes possible the identification and analysis of very broadband signals in a single sweep using an Adaptive Sweep Methodology and a Simultaneous Sweep capability that the present invention makes possible.

Apparatus for very high speed adaptive spectrum analysis

This invention describes a method by which a low cost low phase noise Phase Locked Loop or Phase Locked Loop based. Frequency Synthesizer can be realized. The new method, called a Translational Phase Lock Loop or TPLL, allows the conversion of a traditional voltage controlled oscillator or VCO signal so that the phase noise of the VCO signal is substantially identical to the noise that the loop is aimed to correct via comparison to a low noise reference oscillator. It overcomes additional problems associated with traditional and prior art phase lock loops in terms of unwanted spurious signals, complexity, and cost.

Translational phase lock loop and synthesizer that eliminates dividers

A cable distribution system with distributed architecture that can accommodate both digital and analog subscribers. Each home has at least one Room Interface Unit (RIU), one for each television. There is a local service module associated with a group of RIUs (e.g., one for every ten RIUs). There is also a local headend in the vicinity. The local headend has a block of integrated tuner/receiver/decoders that can be controlled to tune in a selected video channel. The selected video channels and a group of standard channels are multiplexed and sent to the local service modules where a group of programmable converters (one for each RIU) place the channel selected by its corresponding RIU at a predetermined frequency. Each of the RIUs associated with a particular local service module receive the corresponding channel. Depending upon whether the subscriber has subscribed to digital or analog service, they will have either a digital or an analog RIU. The analog RIU may include a bandpass filter while the digital RIU may include one or more IRDs. Forward and return DOCSIS channels are also provided.

Video distribution system for digital and analog subscribers

A telecommunications system for providing telecommunication services to a plurality of users connected to a loop-through cable distribution architecture. The system includes a signal collection and transmission circuit or headend circuit for collecting and transmitting telecommunication signals to the user. In addition, the system comprises a signal distribution system or circuit operatively connected to the signal collection and transmission circuit for receiving and transmitting telecommunication signals therefrom and thereto. The system includes a user or customer interface device operatively connected to an associated signal distribution circuit for both receiving telecommunication signals from the associated signal distribution circuit and transmitting telecommunication signals to the associated signal distribution circuit. The signal distribution circuit is formed by a node having a plurality of output lines and a service module operatively connected to one of the node output lines. The service module further includes a signal splitter having a plurality of output lines, a user service module circuit operatively connected to one of the splitter output lines, and a processor control circuit operatively controlling the service module.

Enhanced security communication system

Single and multiple ferrite crystal resonator, oscillator, and filter coupling structures are disclosed. In one embodiment, a single ferrite crystal resonator coupling structure is configured as a single pole YIG-tuned-oscillator (YTO) coupling structure. The YTO coupling structure includes a circuit substrate having an upper and a lower side. The circuit substrate includes an aperture extending through the circuit substrate between first and second openings on the upper and lower sides, respectively. The aperture is configured to permit rotation of a ferrite crystal disposable at least partially therein about a plurality of axes whereby a desirable axis of the ferrite crystal is alignable with a magnetic field within the aperture. At least one coupling line through which an electric current can be directed, which extends between a first end and a second end of the first opening of the aperture across at least a portion of the first opening of the aperture. The coupling line or lines may be etched on the lower surface of a coupling substrate positioned over the aperture. A bipolar transistor is mounted on the circuit substrate with an emitter terminal thereof electrically connected to the first end of the coupling line or lines.
