One embodiment is a unique Vernier machine comprising a rotor and a stator. The rotor comprises a back portion and a plurality of permanent magnets. The stator comprises a plurality of ferromagnetic arm structures, a plurality of ferromagnetic pole structures extending from each of the ferromagnetic arm structures in a direction toward the permanent magnets, and a plurality of conductive windings disposed about respective ones of the plurality of ferromagnetic arm structures. The ferromagnetic pole structures are structured to collect magnetic flux from the permanent magnets. The ferromagnetic pole structures of each of said ferromagnetic arm structures are spaced apart from one another according to a non-uniform pattern such that the ferromagnetic pole structures of a given ferromagnetic arm structure have substantially the same angular position relative to the permanent magnets radially opposite from the ferromagnetic pole structures of the given ferromagnetic arm structure.

A method and apparatus for restoring power to loads connected to a feeder powered by a power source. The feeder is provided with a plurality of switching devices and a master electronic device which is in operative communication with the switching devices and has a plurality of power restoration plans stored therein. Upon occurrence of a fault in a zone of the feeder, the identity of the switching device which is closest to and upstream from the faulted zone relative to the power source is used in order to select a power restoration plan and restore power to some or all the loads connected to non-faulted zones of the feeder from one or more additional feeders.

The fault response tolerance calculation tool uses configuration information defined during the configuring of the power switching device and applies this information to an over current response curve selected by a user. The tool calculates the different fault response tolerances and adjusts predicted response times accordingly. The adjusted fault responses are displayed to the user along with a range of recommended fault response values.

An electromagnetic actuator is provided that comprises a housing, a solenoid coil, and an armature. The armature is movably disposed in an interior cavity defined by the housing. Irregular gaps are formed between the armature and the housing to increase the initial force of the actuator and to improve the latching force of the actuator after the actuator has been actuated.

An electromagnetic actuator is provided that comprises a housing, a solenoid coil, and an armature. The armature can move between a first position proximate a portion of the housing and a second position distal of the portion of the housing. The armature and the portion of the housing define a first gap and an extension member extends in an axial direction into the first gap, thereby defining a second gap. The width of the second gap is less than the width of the first gap. The length and shape of the extension member may be varied to produce increased initial magnetic force from the solenoid coil on the armature. The length and shape of the extension member may also be varied to produce a desired armature force-displacement curve over the stroke of the actuator.

High initial force electromagnetic actuator

A reduced-cost core for an electrical-power transformer comprises at least a first magnetic loop and a second magnetic loop. The first and the second magnetic loops are positioned substantially side by side to form a winding leg for a phase winding. The first magnetic loop includes a first plurality of laminae each having a first thickness, and the second magnetic loop includes a second plurality of laminae each having a second thickness, where the second thickness is less than the first thickness.
