The present invention describes polymer compositions that have enhanced properties as oxygen barriers, as well as manufacturing methods for such oxygen-scavenging polymers and devices composed of such oxygen-scavenging polymers. These oxygen-scavenging polymers offer several benefits over existing materials, including a reduced ability for oxygen and carbon dioxide to permeate the polymer, reduced foaming of beverages stored in containers composed of the polymers, improved moisture absorption, and increased anti-bacterial/anti-fungal properties.

Oxygen-scavenging polymer compositions

A device for dispensing liquid from a container includes a dispensing tube to dispense the liquid through a dispensing valve. A gas tube feeds pressurized gas into the container. The upstream end of the gas tube connects to a source of pressurized gas. A three way valve is coupled to the downstream end of the gas tube. The three way valve includes a keg duct in communication with the interior of the container, a gas duct connected to the downstream end of the gas tube, and a vent duct. The three way valve can switch from a dispensing position in which the keg duct is in communication with the gas duct, and out of communication with the vent duct, to a venting position in which the keg duct is in fluid communication with the vent duct and out of fluid communication with the gas duct.

A polymeric keg connector for fluidly connecting the interior of a container has an opening with a fluid tube. The keg connector has a connector, a coupler, a support movable in a longitudinal direction Z with respect to the base body, a tube, and a penetration actuator. The distance the support is moved is sufficient for the tube penetration end to penetrate into the opening provided on a closure of the container. The sliding surfaces of the connector and the support are manufactured with a particulate-reinforced polymeric material and the polymeric material of the connector is reinforced by a particulate material that can be different from the particulate material reinforcing the support element.

The keg connector has a height measured along the longitudinal axis between the container's bottom end, and the furthest point of the keg connector coupled to the closure of the connector is not more than 5% greater than the height of the container without keg connector.

Beverage dispensing appliance for multiple containers

The invention is a closure for the aperture of a pressure driven dispensing container. The closure includes (a) an outer shell having a planar base including an outer first main surface and an inner second main surface. The base includes a dispensing aperture fluidly connecting the outer surface to the inner surface and receives a dispensing tube. An outer peripheral skirt juts out of the inner surface and seals the closure to the aperture of the container. The closure also includes (b) a flexible valve in contact with the inner surface located within the outer peripheral skirt and defining an interior passageway having a first opening at one end adjacent to and in fluid communication with the first dispensing aperture and having a second opening at the other end of the passageway, wherein the flexible valve is resiliently biased so that it naturally shuts and seals the second opening.

A polyester composition is suitable for food and beverage packaging. The polyester composition is obtained by blending: (a) 90-97 wt. % of a thermoplastic polyester selected from polyethylene terephthalate, polyethylene naphthalene, and mixtures thereof, (b) 2-6 wt. % of MXD6, (c) 1-5000 ppm of a cobalt salt, (d) 0.1-1000 ppm ethylene glycol (EG), and (e) 0.1-1000 ppm of pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA).

Thermoplastic polyester having enhanced barrier and impact properties

A keg connector is disclosed for fluidly connecting the interior of a bag-in-container type keg with a dispensing tube connected to a dispensing valve in a tapping column and pressure gas tube connected to a pressurized gas source. The keg connector has a base body and is coupled firmly and releasably to the keg closure. The keg connector has a dispense connector and gas connector having a substantially straight dispense tip and gas tip, respectively, each extending along a longitudinal axis, Z, in fluid communication with a second end respectively connectable to a dispense tube in fluid communication with a tapping column and valve and gas tube in fluid communication with a pressurized gas source. A lever is provided for sequentially driving in a single movement firm coupling of the keg connector to the keg closure and penetration of the dispense and gas tips into the corresponding openings.
