A power system including a power converter system and an electric machine is provided. In one aspect, the power converter system has first and second switching elements. The electric machine includes a first multiphase winding electrically coupled with the first switching elements and a second multiphase winding electrically coupled with the second switching elements. The first and second multiphase windings are arranged and configured to operate electrically opposite in phase with respect to one another. One or more processors control the first switching elements to generate first pulse width modulated (PWM) signals based on received voltage commands to render a first common mode signal and also control the second switching elements to generate second PWM signals based on received voltage commands to render a second common mode signal. The rendered first and second common mode signals have the same or similar waveform with opposite polarity with respect to one another.

An electric power system for a vehicle includes at least one electric machine, one or more power rectifiers, and a plurality of DC channels. The at least one electric machine includes a plurality of tooth-wound multi-phase windings that are substantially magnetically decoupled, and the at least one electric machine is mechanically balanced even if one of the plurality of windings is de-energized. The one or more power rectifiers are configured to produce rectified power from the power generated by the at least one electric machine. The plurality of DC channels are formed after the at least one power rectifier and are configured to provide DC power to one or more loads within a vehicle.

The stator housing may include a cooling structure that has a plurality of cooling body portions and a plurality of cooling conduits defined by the plurality of cooling body portions. A method of forming a stator housing for an electric machine may include additively manufacturing a stator housing that includes a cooling structure defining a fluid domain, coupling a working fluid source to the stator housing and introducing a working fluid into the fluid domain defined by the cooling structure, and sealing the cooling structure with the working fluid contained within the fluid domain of the cooling structure. A method of cooling an electric machine may include heating the working fluid in the fluid domain and flowing the working fluid through the fluid domain, and transferring heat from the cooling structure to a cooling fluid flowing along one or more cooling surfaces contacting a surface of the electric machine.

An electric machine can include a stator core having a plurality of core teeth that define a plurality of core slots in a surface thereof. A winding can be housed at least partially in the core slots. The winding can include a tube defining a channel through at least a portion thereof and one or more wires disposed along a surface of the tube that is opposite the channel. A cooling system can be operably coupled with the channel and configured to move a cooling fluid through the channel.

A driver unit for an interior permanent magnet motor (IPM) is presented. The driver unit includes sensor electronics configured to sense a phase voltage corresponding to one or more phase terminals of the IPM motor to generate a corresponding phase voltage signal. The driver unit further includes a controller electrically coupled to the sensor electronics and configured to extract one or more triplen harmonics of an order of a ninth harmonic and higher than the ninth harmonic of a fundamental frequency of the phase voltage signal corresponding to the one or more phase terminals. The controller is further configured to determine an angular position of a rotor of the IPM motor based on the extracted one or more triplen harmonics. Related motor assembly and method for controlling the IPM motor are also presented.

A stator-less electric motor for an MRI system is provided. The stator-less electric motor includes a body, a rotor rotatable connected to the body, and at least one coil winding disposed on the rotor. The at least one coil winding is arranged so as to rotate the rotor when energized via an electrical current in the presence of a magnetic field generated by a magnet assembly of the MRI system.

Stator-less electric motor for a magnetic resonance imaging system and methods thereof

An electronic filter assembly includes a magnetically conductive annular body extending around a center axis, a set of magnetically conductive prongs radially extending from the center axis toward the annular body, and conductive windings extending around the prongs. The conductive windings can be disposed around the prongs instead of the annular body to assist in conduction of common mode magnetic flux, to reduce impedance of the filter assembly, and/or to more evenly distribute temperature in the filter assembly. A method for forming an electronic filter assembly includes forming an electronic filter assembly having a magnetically conductive annular body extending around a center axis and a set of magnetically conductive prongs radially extending from the center axis toward the annular body. The annular body and the prongs can be formed by coupling plural layers of magnetically conductive bodies together.

Filter assembly and method

An electromagnetic actuator includes a plunger, an armature, and a coil. The plunger is moveable between a first position and a second position. The armature includes a first armature portion proximally disposed about the first position, and a second armature portion proximally disposed about the second position. The coil is proximally disposed with the first armature portion and, when energized, is configured to generate a magnetic field. The magnetic field causes the plunger to move toward the first position by a magnetic flux through a magnetic circuit. The magnetic circuit includes the first armature portion, the plunger, a main air gap, and a variable air gap. The main air gap and variable air gap are between the first armature portion and the plunger. The main air gap diminishes as the plunger moves toward the first position. The variable air gap enlarges as the plunger moves toward the first position.
