Whipstocks and deflectors comprising a degradable composition, and methods of using same are described. A degradable composition may consist essentially of one or more reactive metals in major proportion, and one or more alloying elements in minor proportion, with the provisos that the composition is high-strength, controllably reactive, and degradable under defined conditions. Methods of using degradable whipstocks in oilfield operations are also described. This abstract allows a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the disclosure. A method of entering a previously-installed tubular in a lateral borehole from a primary borehole connected to the lateral borehole includes passing a downhole tool from the primary borehole into the lateral borehole, actuating an orientation mule shoe coupled to the downhole tool to lift the nose portion of the downhole tool into alignment with the tubular in the lateral borehole, and inserting the nose portion of the downhole tool into the tubular.

A cutting module to sever a tubing in a well includes a piston and shear blade. The piston includes at least two moveable telescoping elements, which are adapted to expand the first piston from a retracted length to an expanded length. The shear blade is connected to the piston to sever the tubing in response to the piston expanding from the retracted length to the expanded length. The cutting module may be located below a safety valve in the well.

A subsea production system includes a blowout preventer stack that is adapted to seal and contain pressure in a well. The blowout preventer stack has a passageway through which a tubular string may extend into the well. The subsea production system includes a subsea wellhead and a safety shut-in system that has a valve assembly that is adapted to control flow and adapted to allow tools to be lowered therethrough on tubing. The subsea production system includes a cutting module that is adapted to be run into the passageway to allow tools to be lowered therethrough on tubing. The cutting module is further adapted to activate to shear the tubing that is lowered therethrough.

This invention relates to fuel cells, and in one embodiment, to fuel cells that are especially well suited for downhole use in oil and gas wells, and for subsea use in connection with offshore wells.

An apparatus for retaining fluid in a pipe includes an elongated body adapted to be positioned within a subsea wellhead assembly. The elongated body has an end adapted for connection to the pipe, a flow passage for fluid communication with the pipe, and an outer surface for engagement with a sealing member in the subsea wellhead assembly. A first chamber is defined within the elongated body and connected to receive pressure from above the subsea wellhead assembly. A second chamber is defined within the elongated body and connected to receive pressure from below the subsea wellhead assembly. A valve is supported in the elongated body for movement in response to pressure differential between the first and the second chambers. The valve is movable between an open position to permit fluid flow through the flow passage and a closed position to prevent fluid flow through the flow passage.
