An in-line splice closure for splicing two hybrid fiber and signal conductor cables includes an outer housing having opposing first and second ends for receiving respective ends of the cables. An organizer tube extends within the outer housing. Electrical connectors are positioned within the organizer tube for connecting signal conductors of the first and second hybrid cables. The splice closure preferably includes at least one optical splice for connecting optical fibers of the first and second cables, and an optical fiber support wrapped around an outer surface of the organizer tube for supporting the at least one optical splice and adjacent optical fiber slack portions. The organizer tube preferably has a predetermined diameter and the optical fiber support preferably supports the optical fiber slack portions so as not to exceed the minimum bend radius. The organizer tube preferably has a longitudinally extending groove in an outer surface portion for receiving buffer tubes of the cables. The optical fiber support may comprise a flexible substrate for supporting the fibers. The flexible substrate may comprise a body of flexible compressible material having a disk or oval shape and having radially extending slits for receiving optical fiber slack portions. The flexible substrate may alternately include integrally formed guide portions.

Hybrid cable splice closure and related methods

A fiber optic cable bonding assembly includes a base member, a shield clamping member, and a strength member clamping member assembled in stacked relation. The fiber optic cable has a core, a metallic shield, at least one lengthwise extending strength member, and an overall jacket. A portion of the jacket is removed leaving exposed a portion of the metallic shield and the strength members. The base member has a tongue portion inserted between the shield and an underlying portion of the cable core. The shield clamping member overlies the shield to clamp the shield with the base member. A strength member clamping member overlies the strength members and the shield clamping member to clamp the strength members in a longitudinally extending direction. A threaded stud carried by the base member connects the base member, shield clamping member, and strength member clamping member together, as well as secures an end portion of a bonding strap to the stud.

Bonding assembly for fiber optic cable and associated method

This invention provides a terminal block or an adaptor where the binding posts and the caps which screw on the binding posts are adapted to receive small wires without breaking or cutting the wires when the cap is installed with normal installation torque for binding posts. The binding posts and cap can also receive large gauge wires and make connection therewith through the insulation on the wire without cutting or braking the conductor in the wire.

Terminal block and adapter

The invention provides for an electrical connection device wherein the portion of the device making the electrical contact is part of but spaced from the point of mechanical retention of the wire to which an electrical contact is made. The invention also provides for an electrical connection/wire insulation disconnect indicator to enable the installer to know when an electrical contact is formed or an insulated wire can be withdrawn from the apparatus without stripping the electrical insulation therefrom.
