A method for processing MRI data in which a reference direction and a first voxel are selected. A first transverse orientation vector associated with the first voxel is determined. This first transverse orientation vector is normal to the reference direction. On the basis of the first transverse orientation vector, a second voxel is selected. A second transverse orientation vector associated with the second voxel is also selected. This second transverse orientation vector is likewise normal to the reference direction. The method also includes determining whether a relationship between the first and second transverse orientation vectors is consistent with a track normal to the reference direction and extending between the first and second voxels.

Cross-fiber diffusion MRI

A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) method includes generating first and second spin populations within each of a plurality of pixels of a slice of an object. These spin populations have different phase histories. For each pixel, MRI signals from those spin populations are acquired at different times These MRI signals can then be used to determine a field strength difference between different pixels of the slice.

Methods for obtaining MRI frequency maps

A method for displaying diffusion data includes defining intra-voxel coherence and inter-voxel coherence of the diffusion data. On the basis of the inter-voxel coherence and the intra-voxel coherence, a multiplicity of tracks can be defined. Only those tracks having a selected characteristic are displayed.

Visualizing high-resolution diffusion data by maximum coherence projection

A diffusion-weighted MRI pulse sequence employs a two-dimensional diffusion weighting gradient that is sensitive to spin diffusion in a plane defined by two orthogonal gradients to acquire an image. The resulting magnitude image indicates the location of neuronal fibers perpendicular to this plane and by repeating the acquisition with the plane oriented at different angles, neuronal fibers extending through the field of view at any angle are detected. The magnitude images are used to produce a fiber tracking image.
