A technique includes inducing a distributed temperature change along a portion of a wellbore and measuring a time varying temperature along the portion of the wellbore due to the induced change. The technique includes determining a distributed flow rate in the portion based at least in part on the measured time varying temperature before the temperature reaches equilibrium.

Virtual flowmeter for a well

A first water injection into an injection well is carried out followed by a first shut-in of the injection well. A second water injection is carried out, a volume of the injected water exceeds several times a volume of water in the well in an intake interval. Then there is a second shut-in of the injection well, and during the second shut-in transient temperature profiles are registered within the intake interval by temperature sensors. Then a third water injection step is carried out and at an initial stage of the third injection transient temperature profiles in the intake interval are registered using the temperature sensors. The transient temperature profiles registered during the second shut-in period are analyzed and intake zone boundaries are determined. The transient temperature profiles registered at the initial stage of the third water injection are analyzed and a water intake profile is determined.

Method for determining a water intake profile in an injection well

In order to predict properties of a formation in a near-wellbore area exposed to a drilling mud rheological properties of the drilling mud, of a filtrate of the drilling mud and of a reservoir fluid are determined. Properties of an external mudcake, porosity and permeability of the core sample are determined. A mathematical model of the external mudcake is created. The drilling mud is injected through a core sample and dynamics of pressure drop across the sample and dynamics of a flow rate of a liquid leaving the sample are determined. Using an X-ray micro Computed Tomography a profile of concentration of particles of the drilling mud penetrated into the sample is determined. A mathematical model is developed for the internal mudcake to describe dynamics of changes in concentration of the particles of the drilling mud in a pore space of the core sample. A coupled mathematical model of the internal and the external mudcakes is created and parameters of the mathematical model of the internal mudcake are determined providing matching of simulation results to the experimental data on injection the drilling mud through the core sample and to the concentration profile of the particles of the drilling mud.

Method for predicting changes in properties of a formation in a near-wellbore area exposed to a drilling mud

Whiles moving a pipe string in a wellbore during tripping operations, pressure and temperature are measured. Based on the measured pressure and temperature, such parameters of a bottomhole and a near-bottomhole zone of the wellbore are calculated as skin factor, permeability, reservoir thickness, bottomhole pressure, and outflow or inflow from/to the zone under consideration.

A method for determination of a spatial distribution and concentration of contrast components in a porous sample comprises the steps of scanning a sample with X-ray and obtaining a computer tomographic image of the sample. Then an area of interest inside the obtained computer tomographic image is selected and a first cross-section of the computer tomographic image is defined. Spatial distribution and concentration of contrast components inside the area of interest are determined by analyzing histograms of grayness distribution in the cross-sections of the computer tomographic image starting with the reference cross-section.

A water-soluble salt of a metal with a high atomic weight is selected as an X-ray contrast substance providing a selective ion-exchange reaction with a clay. The salt has a general formula RM, where Ris selected from a group consisting of Ba; Sr; Tl; Rb. . . , and Mis selected from a group consisting of Cl; NO; OHn; CH3COO, SO; . . . . The X-ray contrast substance is injected into a core sample. Upon completion of the selective ion exchange reaction a non-contrast displacing agent is injected into the sample. Grayscale histograms in cross-sections of the sample are obtained. Spatial distribution and concentration of the clay is estimated by means of histograms analysis starting from the reference cross-section histogram.

Method is directed to determining a fluid influx profile and near-wellbore area parameters in multi-layered reservoirs. A bottomhole pressure in a wellbore is measured. After operation of the wellbore at a constant production rate, the production rate is changed. A bottomhole pressure is measured together with a fluid influx temperature for each productive layer. Graphs of the fluid influx temperature measured as a function of time and of a derivative of this temperature with respect to a logarithm of a time passed after the production rate is changed as a function of time are plotted. Relative production rates and skin factors of the productive layers are calculated based on these graphs.

A wellbore fluid temperature over an upper boundary of a lowest productive layer and wellbore fluid temperatures above and below other productive layers are measured and relative production rates and skin factors of the productive layers are calculated from measured wellbore fluid temperatures and measured first and second bottomhole pressures.

A complex tool according to the invention comprises a cylindrical housing, a lever centralizer aligning the tool along the well axis and having at least six levers and a fluid flow temperature sensor and inflow temperature indicator located on the tool axis. A fluid phase composition sensors are located on the centralizer levers and distributed along the well bore circumference. An additional fluid phase composition sensor is located on the tool axis. At least one additional fluid flow temperature sensor and at least one additional inflow temperature indicator disposed on each lever and distributed along the well bore circumference and located on the same line with the phase composition sensors parallel to the tool axis. There is an additional upper lever centralizer in the tail part.

Complex tool for well monitoring

The invention is related to methods for determining thermophysical properties of solid bodies, particularly, to methods for determining thermal conductivity and volumetric heat capacity. In accordance with the method, a reference sample and sequentially located samples of solid bodies are heated by a thermal energy source moving at a constant speed relative to the reference sample and the samples being studied. Excessive temperatures of the surfaces of the reference sample and the studied samples at points on a line of heating are measured and the thermophysical properties of the reference sample and the samples being studied are determined. Arbitrary shape samples are used and thermal conductivity and volumetric heat capacity of the samples are determined by solving an inverse coefficient problem of thermal conductivity.
