Arbitrary numerical distributions are presented for use in devices having limited processing and storage capabilities by having the device accept strings of arbitrarily distributed numbers from a source outside of the device. In one embodiment, a master controller creates a table of values which follow the desired minimum, maximum, mean, and standard deviation, etc. of the particular desired statistical distribution required. The created table is then communicated to the limited capacity device and can be used whenever a distribution of random values is required. The master controller could have one of several slave devices associated with it in the system. In another embodiment, where the storage capability of the device is large enough to store a table of values with sufficient different entries to create a distribution of satisfactory 'randomness' for the particular application, a random number generator within the device is used to select the order of presentation of the table of values.

Systems and methods for producing pseudo-random number distributions in devices having limited processing and storage capabilities

A method for deciding the relationship between a physical property and a threshold, comprising measuring a physical property to obtain a measured value, calculating the distribution of actual values for the physical property, calculating the error distribution of the obtained measured value, calculating the penalty associated with an erroneous decision, and calculating a margin based on the expected loss from selecting at least one possible actual value as a function of the calculated distribution of actual values, the calculated error distribution of the measured value, and the calculated penalty associated with an erroneous decision. Embodiments including a system and apparatus are also disclosed.

Method for comparing a value to a threshold in the presence of uncertainty

Method, apparatus, and computer readable medium for classifying a file of interest in a computer network is described. File statistics are received over the network for a plurality of users and a plurality of files. The file statistics are processed to identify: (i) a set of users that received the file of interest; (ii) a group of shared files each of which was received by at least two users; and (iii) numbers of infected files received by respective users. An average ratio of a number of infected files to a total number of files in the group of shared files is computed using a Monte Carlo process constrained by: (i) indications of which users in received which files; and (ii) the numbers of infected files received by the respective users. A probability of infection is assigned to the file of interest based on the average ratio.

Method and apparatus for classifying reputation of files on a computer network

A method for feature selection is provided. The method includes the steps of selecting a predictor set of features, adding at least one complementary feature to the predictor set based on a quality of prediction, checking to see if all of the features of the predictor set are repeated, and if not, removing at least one feature from the predictor set. The algorithm and method repeats the steps of adding complements, checking the predictor set and removing features until the features of the predictor set are repeated. Once the features of. the predictor set are repeated the proper number of times, the algorithm and method terminate.

Fast microarray expression data analysis method for network exploration

Embodiments of the present invention reconstruct an underlying phenomenon without the need for predicting a functional form for that signal, by establishing an upper bound and a lower bound for the value of the phenomenon at every point within a measurement space. By acquiring a large enough number of measurements of the phenomenon, a sufficiently high probability that the value of said phenomenon lies between said upper and said lower bound at every point within said measurement space may be established.

Confidence blanket for randomly-located measurements

One embodiment of the present invention separates the region of measurement space into a plurality of sub-regions and calculates a confidence, for reconstruction of an underlying signal within said space, corresponding to each of the sub-regions. This embodiment can then accept measurements from mobile measuring devices within said measurement space and store those measurements if they originate from devices in sub-regions having a confidence below an acceptable value.

A method for performing network reconstruction is provided. The method includes the steps of selecting a predictor set of features, adding a complement to the predictor set based on a quality of prediction, checking to see if all of the features of the predictor set are repeated, and then removing one feature from the predictor set. The Algorithm and method repeats the steps of adding a complement, checking the predictor set and removing a feature until the features of the predictor set are repeated. If the features of the predictor set are repeated, the algorithm and method terminate.

A method and system of determining circuit performance-related characteristics, particularly delay and crosstalk, of interconnects includes defining a number of process variables which exhibit Gaussian distributions with respect to geometrical variances. A table of statistically based worst-case values representative of capacitances and resistances associated with different selections of the process variables is generated. In the preferred embodiment, the statistically based worst-case values are 3-sigma values. Also generated is a table of capacitance derivatives with respect to interconnect geometries. When a particular interconnect layout having selected process parameters is designated, the tables of 3-sigma values and derivatives are accessed to generate a resistance-capacitance (RC) net representative of the interconnect layout. The resistance and capacitance are correlated for each RC net and are partially determined by a randomized selection of values for geometries of the interconnect layout. The randomized selection of geometrical values is within the Gaussian distributions. Three-sigma delay and 3-sigma crosstalk may then be determined for the interconnect layout.
