The present invention relates to substituted aromatic compounds of Formula I and their pharmaceutical uses. Particular aspects of the invention relate to the use of those compounds in the prevention and/or treatment of various diseases and conditions in subjects, including the prevention or treatment of (i) blood disorders, (ii) renal disorders, a nephropathies, or renal disorder complications; (iii) inflammatory-related diseases; and/or (iv) oxidative stress related disorders.

Substituted aromatic compounds and pharmaceutical uses thereof

The present invention relates to substituted aromatic compounds for use in prevention or treatment of various fibrotic diseases and conditions in subjects, including pulmonary fibrosis, liver fibrosis, skin fibrosis and cardiac fibrosis, where the compound has the following formula: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein A is Calkyl, Calkyl, Calkenyl, Calkenyl, C(O)&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;CHor CH(OH)&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;CHwherein n is 3 or 4; Ris H, OH or F; Ris H, OH, F or CH&#x2014;OH; Ris H, OH, F or CHPh; Ris H, OH or F; Q is 1) (CH)C(O)OH wherein m is 1 or 2, 2) CH(CH)C(O)OH, 3) C(CH)C(O)OH, 4) CH(F)&#x2014;C(O)OH, 5) CF&#x2014;C(O)OH, or 6) C(O)&#x2014;C(O)OH.

The present invention provides HIV protease inhibitors of formulas I, IA, IB, Ib or II, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein Rmay be, for example, 2-pyridyl-CH&#x2014;, 3-pyridyl-CH&#x2014;, 4-pyridyl-CH&#x2014;, a sulfonyl group as described in the formulas herein including benzenesulfonyl or thiophenesulfonyl groups, R&#x2014;CO)&#x2014;, Rbeing selected from the group consisting of piperonyl, 2-pyranzinyl (unsubstituted or substituted with H, or an alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms) or a picolylamine group as described herein, wherein R3 may be, for example, a phenyl group or diphenylmethyl group as described herein, and wherein Cx may be, for example, COOH, CONRR, CHOH or CHOR.
