C. in the presence of a catalytic system consisting of a compound of bivalent nickel, an organo-aluminium compound of the formula (1) or (2):

A process for producing high-impact polystyrene which comprises polymerization of styrene in the presence of a reinforcing agent, i.e. a conjugated diolefin polymer, random copolymer, graft-copolymer or block-copolymer of a conjugated diolefin with styrene or a mixture of said copolymers and an anionic catalyst based on organic derivatives of alkali metals or adducts thereof in a medium of inert hydrocarbon solvents such as aliphatic, cycloaliphatic and aromatic solvents or mixtures thereof. On completion of polymerization the resulting polymer is subjected to cross-linking by means of peroxide compounds or redox systems, followed by isolation of the desired product. The process for producing high-impact polystyrene according to the present invention makes it possible to shorten the technological cycle due to increased polymerization rate, to facilitate production technology, and to manufacture polystyrene with improved properties.

A method of separating proximate boiling-point hydrocarbons using solutions of monovalent copper salts in solvents, said solvents being alkyl-substituted amides and alkyl esters of phosphorus-containing acids having a P.dbd.O group, N-alkyl-substituted amides of carboxylic acids, N-alkyl-substituted lactams, dialkyl sulphoxides, alkoxynitriles and N-alkyl-substituted aminonitriles. The method can be used for separating hydrocarbons from small quantities of acetylene compounds and cyclopentadiene. Large quantities of acetylene compounds are separated from the mixture of proximate boiling-point hydrocarbons by contacting the mixture with said solvents containing no salts of monovalent copper.

A method for preparing dicarboxylic acids by subjecting cycloolefins to ozonolysis in a medium of lower monocarboxylic acids so as to form an ozonalyzate; treating the ozonalyzate with a solution of hydrogen peroxide; passing the thus obtained mixture through a solid acid catalyst, such as an Amberlite IR-120 cation-exchange resin; and subjecting the thus obtained catalyzed product first to thermal treatment at a temperature of from 50.degree. to 80.degree.C and then to thermal decomposition at a temperature of from 90.degree. to 110.degree.C to form desired dicarboxylic acids such as succinic, suberic or 1,10-decanedicarboxy acids, depending on the starting cycloolefin, in a yield 98 per cent of the theoretical value and of 99.5 per cent purity.

A method of producing 2,6-dialkyl- and 2,6-diaralkyl-substituted derivatives of p-cresol of the general formula ##SPC1## Wherein R signifies an alkyl group having from 4 to 12 carbon atoms or ##SPC2## Comprising subjecting phenol to alkylation with olefines having from 4 to 12 carbon atoms or with styrene at a temperature of 50.degree.-150.degree.C in the presence of a catalyst, namely, aluminum, taken in an amount of 0.1-5 wt.% of phenol. 2,6-Dialkyl phenol or 2,6-diaralkyl phenol resulting after from the alkylation is treated with a mixture of formaldehyde and dimethylamine or with a product of their interaction having the formula ##EQU1## at a temperature of 20.degree.-100.degree.C with subsequent catalytic hydrogenolysis of N,N-dimethyl(3,5-dialkyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)/amine or N,N-dimethyl(3,5-diaralkyl-4-hydroxybenzyl/amine at a temperature of 80.degree.-200.degree.C., molar ratio of hydrogen to the product being treated of 1-5:1 and space velocity of 0.1-2 hour.sup..sup.-1. The products produced by said method feature a high degree of purity, and they can be employed as effective inhibitors of thermooxidation degradation of polymers and hydrocarbon fuels, and also as intermediates for producing p-cresol, and 2-alkyl- and 2-aralkyl-substituted derivatives of p-cresol.
