To determine spatial orientation of a vehicle, a set of illuminators is mechanically coupled to the vehicle so as to emit light toward a roadway. A set of sensors is mechanically coupled to the vehicle to receive the emitted light as reflected from the roadway. A timer determines times of flight between emission of the light by the set of illuminators and reception of the reflected light by the set of sensors. A processor determines the spatial orientation of the vehicle from a difference in the times of flight.

Automotive level determination

A light device for a vehicle includes an enclosure having a transmissive portion configured to transmit light generated within the enclosure. A matrix material is contained within the enclosure and includes quantum dots dispersed throughout the matrix material. An energy source is configured to couple energy to the quantum dots such that the quantum dots emit light that is transmitted through the transmissive portion of the enclosure.

A vehicle light device includes a primary light source configured to emit first light having wavelengths in a first wavelength range, and a conversion element including an input end and an output end, the input end being optically coupled to the primary light source. The conversion element includes a nonlinear optical medium configured to convert at least a portion of the first light to second light having wavelengths shifted from the first light such that the output end outputs collimated light having a broad wavelength range including wavelengths of the first light and wavelengths of the second light. An outer lens is optically coupled to the output end of the wavelength conversion element and configured to transmit the output light as white light for illuminating a path of a vehicle.

Automotive light device with high efficiency and high directivity white light

In one embodiment, a lighting device for a vehicle includes a first light source configured to generate first light, and a second light source configured to generate second light. A fiber optic light panel is optically coupled to the first and second light sources and includes a plurality of optical fibers each configured to emit light along a respective length of the optical fiber. The plurality of optical fibers are arranged to define an illumination region such that the first and second light is output from the illumination region.
