A contact for crimp termination to a twinaxial cable is disclosed. The contact includes an outer assembly and an intermediate/inner assembly concentrically disposed within the outer assembly. The intermediate/inner assembly includes a concentric arrangement of permanently affixed components for receiving the two conductors of the twinaxial cable, and for retaining said conductors to effect the termination.

A triaxial contact assembly for use with a ground plane electrical connector includes an outer conductor which is grounded to the ground plane of the connector. The intermediate and inner contacts of the triaxial contact assembly have printed circuit board tails on their ends. The arrangement is such that bonding of the insulators to the contacts is eliminated via a cap which holds all internal contact assembly components in place. A coaxial contact for termination to printed circuit boards and the like includes an assembly featuring a dielectric insulator disposed within an outer contact. An outer tail is disposed within the outer contact and an inner tail is disposed within the insulator. The outer contact is staked to retain the outer tail within said contact, and to compress the insulator between the inner tail and the outer contact to retain the inner tail and the insulator within the assembly and to prevent leakage. Alternatively, adhesive joints may be used to retain the insulator within the outer assembly and the inner tail within the insulator.

A pin/socket, pin/pin triaxial interface contact assembly is disclosed which features a minimum number of contacts and insulators which are metal staked to form a contact assembly for mating with concentric twinaxial or triaxial contacts. The assembly is cost effective and withstands significantly high temperatures without degrading the assembly or the positioning of the several components thereof as would otherwise be the case.

A socket contact for electrical connectors consisting of a contact liner sleeve (16) with a rear sleeve (14) and inner and outer front sleeves (12, 10) assembled to the front and to the contact liner sleeve (16) with the outer sleeve (10) rear portion thereof formed over the rear face (40) of the inner front sleeve (12) to form a well defined retention shoulder (48).

Socket contact for electrical connectors

A slot (11) or a cutaway portion that includes an end surface (41) in an outer sleeve (10 or 40, 50) to provide an opening for a projection (25) in an inner sleeve so that the inner sleeve (20) may be located in a predetermined position within the outer sleeve (10) or sleeves (40, 50). A final outer sleeve (30) then is formed over a shoulder (42) of outer sleeve (40) to lock all the sleeves together. This eliminates the need for crimping the sleeves together.

An electrical split sleeve socket contact (10) is disclosed including a plurality of tines (26) formed by slots (30) axially extending from the front of a contact sleeve (12) in which an increased contact pressure is achieved by an axially extending central rib (44) and inwardly crimped sides (46) of each of the contact tines (26) to provide three line contact of each tine with the pin contact (22) and increase the flexural rigidity of each of the tines (26) (FIG. 3).

A coupling ring 10 for connecting together two halves of an electrical connector assembly includes means integral with the coupling ring for mounting the coupling ring 10 to a connector housing 20. The integral mounting means includes a plurality of resiliently deflectable fingers 11, each having an annular shoulder 12 thereon that mates with a groove 21 in the connector housing so that the coupling ring 10 may be rotatably mounted to a housing 20 of an electrical connector. A skirt 14, integral with the coupling ring 10 protects the fingers 11.

This invention relates to electrical connectors and more particularly to a three-piece socket type electrical contact for the connector. The socket type contact includes an inner sleeve (10) stamped and formed from a single sheet of beryllium copper metal, the sleeve having a rear wire receiving portion that includes a groove (11) having a plurality of elongated slots located in said groove; a copper ferrule (20) located in said groove; and a stainless steel rear sleeve (40) telescopically mounted over the rear portion of the inner sleeve (10) and said ferrule (20).

In order to prevent the rotation of an electrical contact 30 within a connector assembly housing 3 the contact 30 is provided with a plurality of radial fins 37 which are located within a space between resiliently deflectable fingers 21 which are part of the contact retaining insert 20. Because the contact 30 does not rotate, the winding of a wire around the wire receiving portion 38 of the contact is facilitated.

This invention is a three piece contact assembly of the type having an inner sleeve (10), a forward sleeve (20), and a rear sleeve (30), wherein the inner sleeve is characterized by a dual thickness. The forward portion of the inner sleeve 10 has a thickness (T) greater than the thickness (t) of the rear wire receiving end thereby strengthening the deflectable fingers (14) at the mating end of the inner sleeve (10).
