A weaving machine starts-up in slow speed operation during a first weaving cycle following the machine start. To help avoid weft breaks, a method is provided to hold a weft thread inserted into the loom shed during the first weaving cycle. A sensor monitors the weft insertion. The inserted weft thread is held by binding threads at a location downstream from an inlet side of the loom shed, before the weft thread is bound by the warp threads. The binding of the weft thread by the binding threads is carried out dependent on a signal of the sensor.

A reed drive of a loom includes a reed shaft connected to a reed. A conversion gearing having an input element and an output element is provided at each end of the reed shaft. The input elements are coupled to driven shafts of electromotive rotary drives to produce a common rotational motion with the same rotational speed as the driven shafts. The conversion gearings convert the rotating motion of their input elements into a reversible rotation of the output elements, and the output elements are coupled to the reed shaft in a rotationally fixed manner. Thus, the number of complete rotations of an input element is equal to the number of complete motion cycles of the reed shaft per unit of time.

A terry weaving method and a terry loom for carrying out the method. Subject matter of the terry weaving method is that a slay travel shortening does not result during the carrying out of partial beat-ups for the formation of a weft thread group, and thus the original weft thread insertion window remains maintained. The terry loom has a servo drive () that displaces the reed support shaft () in the direction of the shed forming means by at least the pre-beat-up distance (VD) while maintaining the basic stroke H of the reed () before the forming of the weft thread group, and that reverses or undoes the displacement by at least the pre-beat-up distance (VD) after the forming of the weft thread group.

Terry weaving method for creating variable loop heights and a terry loom for carrying out said method

A drive arrangement is constructed for permitting the separate operation of a weaving machine and a shed forming machine. The drive arrangement compensates any r.p.m. variations of the weaving machine drive and of the shed forming machine relative to the drive shaft of the respective machine. This drive arrangement permits keeping the energy drawn from the electrical supply network during the start phase and the drive power to be provided for a normal operation of the weaving machine and of the shed forming machine optimally low.

Drive arrangement for a weaving loom and shedding machine

A method of operating a weaving machine and a shedding machine aims, to achieve so-called soft starts and soft stops, in particular, of the shedding machine. The weaving machine is equipped with an electromotive main drive and the shedding machine is equipped with an electromotive auxiliary drive. In the method the shedding machine is started at a time point (t) that lies before the starting time point of the weaving machine, and, upon a triggered interruption of the weaving process, a shedding machine comes to the standstill at a time point (t) that lies after the standstill time point (t) of the weaving machine.

A fabric spreader arrangement for a loom includes a spreader rod rotatably received in a hollow space of a spreader body. The fabric is looped around the spreader rod in the hollow space. To achieve a low wear, a light weight, and an excellent fabric spreading effect, the spreader rod is a one-piece hollow cylindrical metal body extending entirely over the weaving width, preferably made of V4A stainless steel, having an outer diameter of at least 10 mm (and preferably 15 mm) with a wall thickness of at least 0.4 mm (and preferably 0.7 mm), and having an outer circumferential surface that has been surface treated to achieve a surface roughness with a peak-to-valley roughness measurement of at least 10 &#x3bc;m (and preferably 20 to 50 &#x3bc;m).

The heald shafts of a power loom are driven by electric D.C. or A.C. motors which have an external rotor or an armature connected to the respective heald shaft through two articulated couplings, for example snap locks, and a push-pull rod. The motors receive control signals from a computerized controller for reversing the motion direction of the external rotor or armature. The stators of the motors are rigidly mounted on a fixed axis secured to the loom frame.

A reed in a loom is driven or oscillated back and forth to perform the beat-up motion by a direct reed drive that avoids using the main loom drive for operating the reed. The direct drive is an electromagnetic motor which uses as one of its components a reed support shaft ( ) either as a rotor or as a stator. The reed support shaft acting as a rotor carries a reed slay which mounts the reed to the rotor. When the reed support shaft acts as a stator, the reed slay is mounted to separate rotor elements. In both instances the reed support shaft is part of a rotary or linear electromagnetic direct drive motor construction.

A warp thread control system for forming the loom shed as a first control section (,) and a second warp control section (,). The first section is equipped with at least one guide element (,) for guiding the leno threads (,) and a guide rod (,) carrying a multitude of passages,arranged and parallel to one another for guiding the ground threads (,). The second warp control section (,) includes a thread detour element (,) for detouring the leno threads (,) and a needle bar (,) carrying a multitude of needles (,) with needle eyes (,) for guiding the leno threads (,). Both the first warp control section (,) and the second warp control section (,) are positioned on the side of the reed facing the warp threads whereby the positioning may differ either above or below a weaving plane (,) or partially above and partially below the weaving plane (,). Preferably but not necessarily both warp control sections are driven by a common drive (,).

Weaving loom for producing a leno fabric

The shed formed by the warp threads in a loom is changeable by a shed drive that may either be an eccentric drive or a shaft drive. In order to rapidly exchange one shed drive (,) by another shed drive (,) these shed drives are mounted individually in a respective carriage (,). The carriage is constructed for docking in an exchange position next to the loom. An empty first carriage can take up a shed drive currently cooperating with the loom to remove the shed drive from the loom. A second carriage carrying another shed drive can then dock in the exchange position after the second carriage has been removed. The carriage is positionable either manually or automatically in response to distance signals.

Method and apparatus for rapidly exchanging a shed drive in a heald loom

The sley shaft of a loom, particularly a loom for weaving terry cloth or pile fabric, is rotated so as to provide more time for a gentle beat-up of the weft along the fabric beat-up line. For this purpose, the acceleration of the sley shaft and thus of the reed, which is connected to the sley shaft, toward the beat-up position is first faster to provide more time for the following entrainment of the weft or a group of wefts and for their beat-up by way of a discontinuous deceleration of the sley shaft and reed by a two phase deceleration toward the beat-up line. The two phase deceleration is interrupted by a slower deceleration between the two deceleration phases or by no deceleration between the two deceleration phases. Weft entrainment takes place between the two deceleration phases.

Method for controlling a motion characteristic of a sley shaft for driving a reed

The brake components of a clutch brake combination in an automatic high speed loom are periodically cleaned to avoid delays in the brake action that occur following a prolonged loom operation without a stopping. The stopping signal is either derived from randomly occurring events or criteria such as a weft breakage or similar criteria on the one hand, or when a criterium stored in the memory or program of the loom control occurs. The respective control signal is generated in response to whichever criterium occurs first.

Method and apparatus for temporarily activating a brake in a weaving loom

A weft thread insertion device for an air jet loom includes a nozzle block mounted on a sley to be movable together therewith. The movable block has a plurality of individual nozzles. Devices supply compressed air to the nozzle block by way of one or more stationary distributor blocks. At least one outlet is associated with the distributor block. Compressed air is supplied through respective flexible pressure lines from the respective outlets to respective inlets of the individual nozzles of the nozzle block. In order to supply air using short pressure lines that do not intersect, the invention provides that the distributor block or blocks so arranged that they at least partially surround nozzle block regardless of the position of the reed.

A method and an apparatus serve to process a catch selvage that has been trimmed from a web being woven on a loom, so as to separate weft thread ends and leno threads from the catch selvage to produce a type-pure weft thread waste and a type-pure leno thread waste or reusable leno threads. The term 'type-pure' refers to a waste material containing a single uncontaminated type or color of thread material, e.g. wool vs. synthetic or blue vs. red. After the catch selvage (1) has been trimmed from the edge (11) of the woven web (2), the leno threads (4, 4') are untwisted from each other by being rotated by an untwisting apparatus (5) in a direction opposite the binding twist applied by the leno device (18). Thereby, the full leno binding (1A) is completely unbound and opened, so as to release the weft thread ends (3A), which are then sucked into a proper one of weft waste collection containers (6B) by a suction pipe (6A), so that only a single type-pure and/or color of weft thread end is collected in each container (6B). The unbound leno threads (4) are collected as a type-pure waste or are rewound on spools to be reused. Alternatively, by using endless closed-loop leno threads (4'), the leno threads (4') are continuously recirculated back to the leno device (18), without intermediately being wound onto spools.

A controlled weft thread presenting and clamping arrangement minimizes weft thread waste and ensures proper tensioning of the weft thread during its presentation to the insertion gripper, in a gripper loom for weaving with plural different weft threads. The arrangement includes a control shaft (13) that has a drive key (14) protruding therefrom in a reference plane (7), and that is rotatably supported on a support bracket (10, 11, 12), which may be mounted on the loom. Weft thread presenting levers (15) each carrying a respective clamp (16) are movably arranged on the shaft (13), which passes through a hole in each of the presenting levers (15). A translational drive (22) acts on a presenting lever support (17) to translationally move all of the presenting levers (15) in unison together axially along the shaft (13) until a selected lever (15) is positioned in the reference plane (7), with the lever's drive groove 15B engaged on the drive key (14) of the shaft (13). A rotational drive (23) rotates the shaft (13), and therewith the selected thread presenting lever (15) via the drive key (14). A guide member (19) has a lengthwise groove (20) to allow all of the presenting levers (15) to move linearly therealong in unison, and a crosswise groove (21) in the reference plane (7) to allow only the selected presenting lever (15) to rotate in the reference plane. A thread back tensioning device (9) is arranged in the thread path to apply tension to the thread being presented to the gripper.
