In a controlled deflection roll comprising a rotating shell forming the working roll periphery and a stationary beam extending lengthwise through the shell and spaced all around from the inner periphery of the shell, the space between the beam and the inner periphery of the shell, in the neighborhood of the operative plane, is divided into chambers by longitudinal seals and a number of transverse seals, the chambers have separate feed lines and each pair of adjacent chambers has a common transverse seal between them. Neighboring chambers are connected by a duct and non-return valves so that the transverse seal is always acted upon by the pressure of the higher-pressure chamber and pressed against the inner periphery of the shell. The chambers can be formed on the side of the beam facing the nip and also on the side remote from the nip and can also be individually filled with pressure fluid at different temperatures.

Controlled-deflection roll

A roll with a revolving hollow roll and a stationary cross head which extends therethrough lengthwise, spaced a distance from the inside circumference of the hollow roll on all sides, has, in the space between the hollow roll and the cross head, a longitudinal chamber provided with a feed line for pressure liquid, divided by a sealing arrangement which comprises strip shaped longitudinal seals extending on both sides of the action plane of the roll, as well as transverse end seals. The transverse end seals are designed as gap seals, the gap surfaces of which are kept spaced from each other by separate precision antifriction bearings.

A support rod steamer rod lock has a slot for receiving a support rod end and provided at the slot's ends with normally closed spring-biased latches which at one end of the slot are opened by engagement with the rod end and at the other end of the slot are opened by engagement with a cam.

In a deflection controlled cylinder having a hollow cylinder which forms the working cylinder circumference and through which a stationary core extends lengthwise, leaving space all around from the inside circumference of the hollow cylinder, the hollow cylinder being supported on the core with spacing by outer support points of the core, and being supported between the bearings, against the core, by the working pressure of a pressure medium, the controlled cylinder having at least one terminating cover which is provided at one end of the hollow cylinder, surrounds the core in ring fashion and is sealed by sealing arrangements to prevent the escape of oil from the end of the cylinder at its outside and inside circumference, means are provided in the terminating cover enclosing the sealing arrangements for compensating displacements occurring when the core is bent.

Deflection controlled cylinder

A controllable variable deflection roll of the type applying the deflection controlling force between the fixed shaft and the rotative shell via piston and cylinder arrangements, has the arrangements positioned offset circumferentially around the shaft with respect to the direction in which the deflection controlling force is applied.

In order to obtain better heat transfer in a coolable roller with an inner supporting cylinder which consists of metal, and on which a tubular roller jacket is firmly disposed, the jacket consisting of plastic and having slots on its inner circumference, the inner cylinder is constructed so that it can be cooled from the inside and a pressure resistant heat conductor which is in heat conducting contact with the walls of the slots is disposed in the slots.

Coolable roller

In a grooved drum with a working drum surface of metal consisting of a cylindrical inner drum on which at least one ribbon is helically wound, turn by turn, the radially outer boundary of which forms the working drum surface, the ribbon also forming axially extending circumferential grooves, adjacent turns of the ribbon are connected to each other in a form locking manner on their sides facing each other in the axial direction causing the adjoining turns to be immovably fixed relative to each other so that in the event of a break in the ribbon the turns will not give in to the circumferential tension force generated during winding and burst open.

Method of making a helically grooved roller

A sealing arrangement for a roll consisting of a stationary core and a hollow cylinder surrounding the core with a spacing and rotatable thereabout, which includes a longitudinal seal made up of a seal carrier disposed in a slot in the core, the seal carrier itself forming a slot in which there is disposed a sealing strip made of a material having good gliding properties extending therefrom radially toward the inner wall of the hollow cylinder and pressed there against by the pressure of a pressure liquid.

In a roll for pressure treating webs of material comprising a stationary core which is surrounded by a rotatable hollow cylinder spaced from the core, and in which there are provided, between the core and the hollow cylinder, longitudinal seals and end seals which seal off a longitudinal chamber which extends between the core and the hollow cylinder on the side of the working gap and is filled with a pressure liquid, with discharge canals provided in the core for discharging leakage liquid from the space between the core and the hollow cylinder which remains between the core and the hollow cylinder on the side facing away from the working gap, an improved sealing arrangement, which includes a strip which extends along the hollow cylinder over the length of the longitudinal chamber following in the direction of rotation, the seal projecting at an angle from the core toward the longitudinal seal up to the inner circumference of the hollow cylinder and discharge canals opening in the region between the point where the strip is secured to the core and the longitudinal seal, is provided to reduce friction.

Roll for pressure treating webs of material

In a tubular filter bodies with at least one tubular filter structure with a porous wall, through which a liquid passes substantially radially, particles above a given size being held back at the entrance surface, made of porous plastic, ceramic material, metal, graphite, etc, continuous operation at constant pressures is made possible by providing at least one groove (or slot) which is closed toward the outside and forms a forced flow path leading from an inlet to an outlet in the circumferential entrance surface of the tubular filter body.
