A presbyopia correcting system includes a test lens assembly, a controller and a dynamic lens assembly. The test lens assembly is disposed within or on an eye of a patient and includes measuring device, a transmitter and a first supporting member. The measuring device measures a pressure exerted by an ocular element of the eye and then transmits the data to the controller. A medical provider can then select an appropriate dynamic lens assembly to replace the test lens assembly. The dynamic lens assembly includes a presbyopia correcting optical element configured to change a focus with the pressure exerted by the ocular element of the eye. The dynamic lens assembly also has a second supporting member that is identical to the first supporting member. Replacing the test lens assembly with the dynamic lens assembly then corrects the presbyopia condition of or provide low vision magnification for the patient.

Presbyopia correction with individual performance optimization

A lens includes a switchable optical element having an optical substrate with a diffraction surface. A substrate cover forms an internal chamber with the optical substrate. An elastic membrane in contact with the diffraction surface of the substrate forms an active chamber. Through channels are placed through the optical substrate's thinnest parts of the grooves connecting the active and internal chambers. The switchable optical element changes focus positions between one focus with the optical fluid filling the active chamber and the elastic membrane taking a non-periodic shape with the membrane's surface forming a refractive shape of certain curvature and another focus where the optical fluid is transported from the active chamber through the through channels to the internal chamber for the elastic membrane to conform to the diffraction surface shape of the optical substrate with the membrane's surface forming diffractive surface of periodicity of the diffractive guiding surface.

Multi-chamber switchable optical element

A frame independent focus adjustable eyewear lens blank includes an autonomous components assembly. The lens blank includes a front optically finished convex surface and a back unfinished surface. A first and second space are formed in the lens blank between the front and back surfaces. The autonomous components assembly includes a focus sensor configured to detect a need for near and/or far focus and a control electronics having a microprocessor and a power unit. The power unit includes a battery and/or a photocell. The lens blank includes a focus adjustable element configured to change a focus viewed through lens produced from the lens blank where the focus adjustable element is in communication with the focus sensor and the control electronics. The focus sensor, control electronics and power unit are disposed within the first space and the focus adjustable element is disposed within the second space.

Frame independent focus adjustable eyewear lens

A pill dispensing system includes an electronic mobile communication device with a wireless transmitter and receiver. A pill cartridge has a cartridge body storing a plurality of pills, where the cartridge body includes an electronic tag storing data. A pill cartridge dispenser is configured to receive at least one of the pill cartridge and configured to electromechanically control dispensing of the plurality of pills from the cartridge body, where the pill cartridge dispenser is configured to be in wireless communication with the electronic mobile communication device. The electronic mobile communication device is configured to wirelessly read the data stored on the electronic tag or wherein the pill cartridge dispenser is configured to wirelessly read the data stored on the electronic tag. The electronic mobile communication device wirelessly communicates with the pill cartridge dispenser to dispense at least one pill from the plurality of pills within the pill cartridge.

Cartridge-based medication dispensing

An optical accommodating system for an eye includes a sensor assembly and an adjustable optic assembly. The sensor assembly includes a sensor configured to sense a movement of the ciliary muscle and produce a signal, an electronic processor, a transmitter and a power source. The adjustable optic assembly is configured to be either implanted within or on the eye, or configured to be disposed adjacent to or near the eye. The adjustable optic assembly includes a switchable optical lens assembly configured to change its optical power between a first state and a second state, a receiver configured to receive the transferable signal from the transmitter of the sensor assembly, a second electronic processor connected to the receiver which directs the switchable optical lens assembly to change its optical power between the first state and second state, and a second power source connected to the second electronic processor.

Presbyopia correcting wireless optical system

A pair of spectacles has a frame and defines a horizontal plane generally through the temples and bridge of the spectacles. At least one switchable lens is configured to switch its foci from a first focal length to a second focal length. An infrared emitter is disposed at one peripheral edge of the at least one switchable lens, the infrared emitter configured to emit an infrared radiation. An infrared sensor is disposed at an opposite peripheral edge, the infrared sensor configured to detect a different intensity of the infrared radiation from the infrared emitter upon reflection from the front surface of wearer's eye ball. The at least one switchable lens is configured to switch to its first focal length when the infrared sensor detects the infrared radiation and is configured to switch to its second focal length when the infrared sensor detects a different intensity of the infrared radiation.

Switchable spectacles

An ophthalmic multifocal switchable lens includes a deformable element manifesting elevated strain with a formable surface of a multifocal surface shape to provide far and near vision. A transparent chamber is filled with optical matching fluid adjacent to the side of the deformable element opposite to the formable surface. The optical matching fluid has a refractive index that matches a refractive index of the deformable element material. A holding chamber is also filled with the optical matching fluid and connected with the transparent chamber with a means for preventing the optical fluid from being transported from the holding chamber to the transparent chamber which would reduce a strain of the deformable element. A split of light between far and near vision of the multifocal switchable lent changes upon a removal of the means to allow a flow of the optical matching fluid into the transparent chamber.

A switchable intraocular lens assembly includes an optic body having a guiding surface, a holding chamber, a blocking channel, and a laser accessible cavity at a portion of the blocking channel. An elastic film is disposed over the guiding surface, wherein the elastic film is sealed at or near the guiding surface periphery forming a transparent chamber between the guiding surface and the elastic film. A laser flowable blocking element has an enlarged head connected to an extension portion, where a length of the extension portion is more than a distance along the blocking channel from the blocking channel opening to the fluidic connection of the transparent chamber. The extension portion of the laser flowable blocking element is disposed inside the blocking channel. An optical fluid is disposed within the holding chamber under a pressure greater or lesser in comparison to a pressure in the transparent chamber.

Multi-mode operating optic for presbyopia correction

A lens in accordance with the present invention includes an switchable cell consisting of optical substrate with diffraction surface, elastic film in contact with the diffraction surface of the substrate, optical fluid that fills the space between the film and diffraction surface and the mean to transfer the optical fluid in and out of the space between the film and diffraction surface. The refractive index of the optical fluid matches the refractive index of the optical substrate. The switchable cell changes focus positions between refractive focus in relaxed state when the pressure at both sides of the film is the same and diffraction focus when the optical fluid is transported from the space between the film and optical substrate for the film to largely conform to the diffraction surface shape of the optical substrate.

A lens in accordance with the present invention includes an accommodating cell having two chambers with at least one chamber filled with optical fluid with the refractive index matching the refractive index of the accommodating element separating them. The accommodating element has a diffractive surface with surface relief structure that maintains its period but changes its height due a pressure difference between the chambers to redirect most of light that passes through the lens between different foci of far and near vision. The invention also includes a sensor cell that directly interacts with the ciliary muscle contraction and relaxation to create changes in pressure between the accommodating cell chambers that results in changing surface relief structure height and the lens accommodation.
