A drive gear for a group of cylinders and a method in the drive of cylinders in which the drive gear has a box frame including a front plate, a rear plate, and side plates, and to which box frame, rotational drive is introduced from outside the gearbox through a shaft. Rotation of the shaft causes rotation of a cogwheel and further, two other cogwheels are rotated which are in contact with this cogwheel, and the drive is transferred to both sides of the gearbox and further to the cylinders. The box frame of the gearbox is stationarily supported on a foundation which receives the weight of the gearbox shafts and cogwheels and the weight of the box frame. The load arising from the weight of the gearbox is transferred to the foundation through the box frame of the gearbox. Two cylinders and their shafts can be operated so that, between the shafts and the gearbox, there is a floating coupling which permits certain angular changes for the shafts of the driven cylinders. In this manner, torsion arising from faults in the directions of the shafts is not transferred from the cylinders to the gearbox or from the gearbox to the cylinders.

Drive gear for a group of cylinders and method in the drive of cylinders

The invention concerns a drive unit (10) for the center-wind reel-up of a paper machine or paper finishing machine, comprising means by which the rotation drive of the motor (11) is transferred to the shaft (19). In its interior, the shaft (19) comprises a transfer shaft (21) rotatable along with the shaft (19), said transfer shaft (21) being fitted to be displaceable on a coupling and uncoupling process in the direction of the longitudinal axis (X.sub.1) of the shaft (19) by means of a cylinder device (22). When the transfer shaft (21) is displaced (arrow L.sub.1) towards the coupling half (23b) of the central drum of the paper web roll (P), the coupling half (23a) of the drive unit attached to the end of the transfer shaft (21) is displaced into engagement with the web roll coupling half (23b). The invention further concerns a hydraulic operating system for the reel-up.

Drive unit for the reel-up of a paper machine or paper finishing machine

A drive arrangement for cylinders, such as drying cylinders, in a paper machine of the type which comprises a number of cogwheels, such as gears, which intermesh to constitute a gear transmission. The cogwheels of the gear transmission are fitted within a casing situated on the side of the drying section of the paper machine, and in accordance with the invention, both the cogwheel shafts as well as the axle journal of the drying cylinder to be driven are rotatably mounted or journaled to the same casing. The casing in which the cogwheels are fitted is substantially trapezoidal in shape, preferably a 'regular' trapezoid (the non-parallel sides are substantially equal in length). Several such trapezoidally-shaped casings may be co-operatively mounted in the drying section to form a composite drive arrangement for the cylinders.
