In an embodiment, a composition comprises a polycarbonate; 1 to 5 wt % based on a total weight of the composition of a nanosilica having a Dparticle size by volume of 5 to 50 nanometers; wherein the nanosilica has a hydrophobic coating; and a siloxane domain having repeat units of the formula 10; wherein each R is independently a Cmonovalent organic group and the value of E is 2 to 1,000; wherein the composition comprises at least one of a polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer, 0.1 to 5 wt % of a polysiloxane homopolymer based on the total weight of the composition, or a plurality of polysiloxane particles having a Dparticle size by volume of 0.1 to 10 micrometers.

Impact compositions

Provided are extrusion dies having entrance, orientation, merging (), and exit () sections, which dies may be used to produce fibers having, e.g., oriented reinforcement materials (e.g., PTFE) dispersed within. The dies provide fibers having enhanced mechanical and processing properties. Fibrillated polymer compositions and methods of their manufacture

A copolycarbonate optical article comprises a polycarbonate composition including: a copolycarbonate having: 2 to 60 mol % of phthalimidine carbonate units, 2 to 90 mol % of high heat carbonate units, and optionally 2 to 60 mol % of bisphenol A carbonate units. The copolycarbonate has less than 100 ppm of each of phthalimidine, high heat bisphenol, and bisphenol A monomers, and less than 5 ppm of various ions, and is prepared from monomers each having a purity of at least 99.6%. The polycarbonate composition has a glass transition temperature of 200&#xb0; C. to and a yellowness index of less than 30.

Phthalimidine copolycarbonate optical articles, articles formed therefrom, and methods of manufacture

In an embodiment, a composition comprises a poly(ester-carbonate-siloxane) copolymer; a nanosilica; a plurality of polysiloxane particles; and a fluoropolymer. The nanosilica can be present in an amount of 1 to 5 wt % based on a total weight of the composition. The nanosilica can have a Dparticle size by volume of 5 to 50 nanometers. The nanosilica can have a hydrophobic coating. The plurality of polysiloxane particles can be present in an amount of 1 to 10 wt % based on a total weight of the composition. The plurality of polysiloxane particles can have a Dparticle size by volume of 0.1 to 10 micrometers. The fluoropolymer can be present in an amount of 0.005 to 5 wt % based on a total weight of the composition.

The invention relates to a heterophasic propylene copolymer comprising a matrix phase comprising a propylene polymer and a dispersed phase comprising an ethylene-&#x3b1;-olefin elastomer comprising ethylene and at least one Cto Colefin, wherein the propylene polymer has a melt flow index of at least 200 dg/min or at least 150 dg/min as determined by IS01 133:2005 at 230&#xb0; C. and 2.16 kg, wherein the propylene polymer has an intrinsic viscosity IVand the ethylene-&#x3b1;-olefin elastomer has an intrinsic viscosity IVwhere the ratio of IV/IVis 3-7, wherein the copolymer comprises 8-20 wt % or 20-30 wt % of the ethylene-a-olefin elastomer, wherein the ethylene-a-olefin elastomer of the dispersed phase comprises 10-55 wt % of ethylene.

A method of preparing a polycarbonate nanocomposite comprising forming a reactant mixture comprising a nanomaterial, a solvent, a dihydroxy compound and an activated carbonate; and polymerizing the dihydroxy compound and the activated carbonate in the presence of the solvent to form the polycarbonate nanocomposite is disclosed. Also disclosed are polycarbonate nanocomposites prepared in accordance with this method, and thermoplastic compositions comprising the polycarbonate nanocomposites. Polycarbonate composition comprising nanomaterials

Polycarbonate nanocomposites comprising a polycarbonate matrix having non-oxidized metal nanoparticles dispersed therein are disclosed. The polycarbonate nanocomposite is produced by a process comprising forming a reaction mixture comprising a dihydroxy compound, an activated carbonate, a metal precursor, and a solvent; and in-situ polymerizing the reaction mixture to form a nanocomposite comprising a polycarbonate matrix and metal nanoparticles dispersed therein. The metal precursor comprises a metal selected from a specified group. The nanocomposites have improved mechanical, optical, electrical and/or magnetic properties. Also disclosed are articles formed from such polycarbonate nanocomposites.
