To maximize power saving in a radio access network comprising cells, an optimal action amongst actions comprising switching on one or more cells, switching off one or more cells, and doing nothing is determined using a trained model, which maximizes a long term reward on tradeoff between throughput and power, the trained model taking as input a load estimate. The trained model may be updated online using measurement results on load, throughput and power consumption.

Power saving in radio access network

Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for dynamic target cell selection for application of RAN optimization are provided. One method includes receiving a request, from one or more radio access network optimization services, that comprises a list of attributes corresponding to characteristics of a cell and a cell selection criterion for each of the attributes, receiving, from one or more radio access network cells, a data stream comprising metrics for at least one of the cell or users in the cell. The method may also include generating, based on the received request and the metrics, a list of zero or more cells that meet the selection criterion for one of the radio access network optimization services or for a group of the radio access network optimization services, and sending, to a respective one of said one or more radio access network optimization services, the generated list of said zero or more cells that meets the selection criterion for the respective one or more radio access network optimization services.

A method and apparatus for estimating and/or predicting mobility metric(s) for RAN optimization. One method includes receiving a request, from at least one RAN optimization service, to provide an estimate or prediction of a mobility metric for at least one UE or group of UEs or at least one cell. The request may include attributes describing characteristics of the mobility metric. The method may then include communicating with a RAN node to request data about the at least one UE or the group of UEs or the at least one cell associated with the request, receiving the requested data, and calculating the estimate or the prediction of the mobility metric using the requested data and based on the attributes received in the request from the at least one RAN optimization service.

A communication device in a communication network includes at least one processor. The processor is configured to identify a first management information base (MIB) of a first occupied channel in the communication network, and a second MIB of a second occupied channel in the communication network adjacent the first occupied channel. The second occupied channel occupies a frequency band overlapping with an interfering signal band. The processor is further configured to calculate at least one proactive network maintenance (PNM) metric for each of the first and second MIB, and determine, from the calculated PNM metric, that an ingress of the interfering signal is detected on the second occupied channel.

A communication device is provided for a communication network having a cable plant within an operational vicinity of a macro base station wirelessly transmitting an LTE signal. The communication device includes a processor configured to obtain at least one PNM metric for a cable signal communicated over the cable plant, detect a signature of the LTE signal based on the obtained PNM metric, estimate, based on the detected LTE signature, an existing LTE signal power at a point of leakage in the cable plant, determine a CNR of the cable plant at the point of leakage based on a power of the cable signal and the estimated LTE signal power, and calculate a minimum safe distance from the point of leakage in which a small cell base station may operate without the substantial interference from the LTE signal of the macro base station.

Systems and methods for small cell placement using PNM metrics

A technique is disclosed for providing high availability (HA) capability with a plurality of storage servers, which may be virtual storage servers (VSSs), in a shared-nothing storage environment. The technique uses a proxy mechanism to route requests originating at one storage server to an HA partner storage server, where the proxy is implemented inside a VSS logically below the RAID layer. The technique also involves distributing non-shared storage devices 'owned' by a storage server so that existing storage device-based heartbeat and fencing mechanisms can function unmodified for HA VSSs in shared-nothing environments. For example, a third, external host can be used to provide and export its non-shared storage to first and second storage servers, where the first and second storage servers do not own the non-shared storage on their local physical host machine.

High availability network storage system incorporating non-shared storage suitable for use with virtual storage servers

A technique is disclosed for non-disruptive migration of data between storage on hosts that do not share storage with each other. Aggregate relocation is enabled to operate between the hosts in the absence of shared storage connectivity. The technique includes mirroring an aggregate from storage of a first host to storage of a second host by using a sub-RAID level proxy in each of the first and second hosts to proxy data communications between the hosts. The proxy is used in lieu of the mirroring application in the first host having direct access to the storage devices of the second host. The technique further includes relocating the aggregate from the first host to the second host.
