An active display based targeting and weapon siting system for providing focusing and targeting data is disclosed. In one embodiment, the active display based targeting and weapon siting system includes an angled optic device configured to allow a user's line of sight to pass through the angled optic device. Further, the active display based targeting and weapon siting system includes a display module configured to provide images including video images, multicolor images and/or wide boresight adjustment and to direct the images into the user's line of sight through the angled optic device.

A thermal imager comprises a thermal video detector for detecting thermal video images and generating a video signal representing those thermal video images. Often, imaging optics are used for imaging light onto the thermal video detector. A display mode selector is also provided for enabling a selection between different video display modes. A video controller then scales the video signal in response to the display mode of the selector for display on a visible video display, which receives the scaled video signal from the video controller and displays the thermal video images. In the typical application, the display mode selector is operated by a user to select between a hand-held mode or mode in which the imager is used with a non-magnifying gun weapon sight, on one hand, and a mode for use with a magnifying telescopic sight of a weapon, on the other. In these latter applications, possibly only a portion of output of the video display is imaged through the telescopic sight of the weapon. Here, the image is not upsampled into portions of the display that are not visible through the sight.

An optical device comprises a dichroic beamsplitter for splitting an object beam into a reflected beam having a first waveband and a transmitted beam having a second waveband; an astigmatism-correcting lens element, disposed in the optical path of the transmitted beam; and a coma-correcting lens element, disposed in the optical path of the transmitted beam.

A panoramic night vision goggle (PNVG) system is disclosed having a modified eyepiece that enables an improved field of view for at least an inner optical channel. Embodiments of the PNVG system may have a inner optical channel and an outer optical channel, each having an eyepiece element. In some embodiments, the inner eyepiece element may have an edge portion that is generally circular in shape and the outer eyepiece element may have an edge portion that is the complementary shape of the inner element edge portion.

A novel aiming light assembly and mounting bracket therefor is disclosed. The bracket has a first portion which clamps to the barrel of a weapon, a second portion including a cut-out which fits over and abuts against the front sight post of the weapon, and a third portion on which the aiming light assembly is mounted. A novel switching assembly and the combination of integral and remote switching is provided. An improved steering mechanism is provided to facilitate boresighting of the aiming light assembly once mounted on weapon.
