A measurement while drilling (MWD) system for use in a drilling string, the MWD system comprises: a resistivity module that is configured to generate resistivity information about a resistivity of a formation that is drilled by the drilling string; a near bit sub that is configured to generate inclination information about an inclination of a drill bit of the drilling string; a MWD module; a first wireless communication module that is configured to wirelessly send the resistivity information from the resistivity module to the MWD module; a second wireless communication module that is configured to wirelessly send inclination information from the near bit sub module to the MWD module; and wherein the MWD module is configured to participate in a transmission of the inclination information and the resistivity information towards an upper surface of the formation.

Measurement while drilling system and method

A drilling system that may include a drilling element for drilling a hole in a geological formation; a sensor module arranged to collect information about the drilling; a transmitter that is arranged to receive the information from the sensor module, amplify the information by a super-capacitor amplifier to provide amplified information and to provide the amplified information to a first element and to a second element of an antenna, the first and second elements of the antenna are located at two opposite sides of a band gap; wherein the antenna is arranged to transmit the amplified information via the geological formation; wherein the super-capacitor amplifier comprises a plurality of switched capacitor converters, each switched capacitor converter comprises a plurality of converter stages, each converter stage comprises capacitors and switches that are arranged to perform a current amplification of an input signal; wherein each converter stage is arranged to operate with alternating charge cycles and discharge cycles.

Drilling system having a super-capacitor amplifier and a method for transmitting signals

A method and a system may be provided. The system may include: a drilling pipe that comprises an inner space; a telemetry system, arranged to (a) sense drilling information about an underground drilling process that is executed by the system, and (b) transmit the drilling information to an entity that is located outside the drilling pipe; a rechargeable battery arranged to provide power to at least one telemetry module of the telemetry system; and a controller, arranged to control a provision of power to the at least one telemetry module and to control a charging of the rechargeable battery. Wherein the at least one telemetry module, the rechargeable battery and the controller are shaped and sized to be positioned within the inner space of the drilling pipe. The battery and controller can also be mounted in the drilling collar.

An electric dipole transmission system includes an uphole dipole assembly adapted for receiving downhole telemetry data. The uphole dipole assembly includes a gap sub, an electric dipole transmitter, a battery stack and a wireline receiver. A short hop receiver assembly is connected to the lower end of the uphole dipole assembly by a wireline. A downhole dipole assembly operatively connected to the uphole dipole assembly includes a short hop transmitter, a battery stack and a sensor assembly.
